Talk to me: Warehouse Invader 50

DankStar

Her Little Mojo Minion
OK, so I'm at the point where I want to change out a v30 because the impedance mainly, but instead of jumping right into a v30 at 8 ohms I'm possibly going back to my favorite type of speaker - the greenback.

I need something with more than 25 watts of handling but to be honest, I'm not super impressed with the creamback clips I've heard. I do however, like the invader clips and the price is better.

If I get it through GC I gots a gift card so I end up paying $30 wOOt

Anyone rocking an invader right now - pros/cons?

thx

I don't have an Invader, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Warehouse. I have an X pattern of their speakers in my 412, and they rock. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Re: Talk to me: Warehouse Invader 50

I've got 4 of them in a 4 X 12. They aren't higher power Greenback clones but they do have some of the character. I would say that for 30 bucks, give it a shot. You should be able to recoup your money on resale if it's not your thing.

Re: Talk to me: Warehouse Invader 50

There are no really good g12m creamback clips on yootoob except for one in the greenback shootout done by that german guitar magazine. There you can hear it up against everything else through a 2203 apples to apples.

The thing with both creamback speakers is they really, really need to be pushed. They dont sound good at low volumes. If you cant jack up a 50w amp halfway plus, dont bother with them, and use the lower watt H30 and m20/25. The magic in all of them is giving them a little bit of a workout.

If you want a greenback sound, buy a celestion, the wgs stuff doesnt sound the same. Better or worse is subjective. But most certainly they dont sound the same.

Re: Talk to me: Warehouse Invader 50

Given that train of thought, I may just stick with a v30 but 8 ohms. It's resulted in some of my best tone tests to date I believe, and the 60 watt rating seems ideal for my needs.

But still curious about good clips and personal experience with the invader.

Crap, now their liberator and ET65 are sounding cool to me. Speaker shopping is hard broahs.

If you want to stay with the Celestion line, I can recommend the V-Type. 70 watts and has been described as 50% Greenback, 25% Vintage 30 and 25% H30. I have one in my Blackstar HT Studio 20 combo and it is just awesome. And ... they're only $100 new.

Re: Talk to me: Warehouse Invader 50

Now considering a governor. A v30 variant with nary a bad review to be found and price is right. Clips don't really scream awesome to me though.

I used to think that the Swamp Thang was the greatest and I still love it. But for a bit richer creamier tone even at low volume I absolutely love the ET65.

This is quite helpful to know, thanks.

Re: Talk to me: Warehouse Invader 50

get off the cheap azz junk gear kick, and spend the money for Eminence or Celestion.

Re: Talk to me: Warehouse Invader 50

Haha, nice Jerry. I don't think they're junk but I also have not found one clip of anything that is making me want to definitely buy one. Even the eminence clips I've heard, they all have a certain sound that rubs me wrong. I think I'm just a celestion guy when you boil it down, a greenback, a v30, or a g12-t75 (maybe not that last one).

Well, Celestion has the best sounding speakers IMO,but they are the most expensive I think... however Eminence has excellent sounding speakers made in USA , and most pertinent, has a 5 year unconditional warranty; that alone is worth the price of admission IME.C elestion can't begin to match the Eminence warranty.
I'd like to say this- you want a Celestion Gold?...Okay, it's 250, with a 90 day warranty. You want a Celestion Blue copy from Emincnece? Get a 'Red Fang'- OUITSTANDING SPEAKER IN EVERY WAY, AND A CLONE OF THE BLUE THAT ANYBODY BUT THE MOST ANAL SPEAKER FREAK WOULD DEARLY LOVE, AND PLUS LIKE i SAID, A 5 YEAR WARRNATY.
i GO eMINENCE.

I'm warming up to the sounds of the man o war & the governor.

Re: Talk to me: Warehouse Invader 50

Weird, now the governor and Texas heat are on the top of the heap in my search prior to purchase.

In clips, the Texas heat sort of sounds to me like a celestion v30 after studio processing (rolling off some harsh high end, adding some juicy mids), but perhaps too dark.

One thing throwing me off - I'll hear a clip of a v30 and an governor, and I usually opt for the v30 due to clarity/more high end, but I'm thinking if I were to be playing with it, I'd probably turn up the treble on the amp with the governor. might change the results entirely.

IME, Governors sound great in the room, but once you throw a mic in front them and drop them in a mix, they seem to fall apart IMO. Rather than being bitey and up-front like Celestion V30's, they seem to emphasize a weird scratchy/squelchy pick attack higher up the spectrum and have this weird slightly hollow almost phasey-ish mid-voicing. JMO/JME.

FWIW, I do like and recommend the Creamback M's big-time, personally. To my ears, they sounded more like G12-EVH's (same as Heritage G12M's) than standard Chinese G12M's, except a little cleaner, fuller in the lows and crisper up top.

I find this a weird statement about WGS, they are made in the US and they have a 30 day one time exchange or refund policy if you don't like the speaker, you may have to order direct for that though, not sure.

I know JeffB doesn't like them, I personally do, I think it is more a matter of personal preference than quality though. I personally don't like V30s FWIW, or maybe I just haven't used them in the right set up. I currently have a British Lead in my 1-12 cab and love it.

My <$0.02
