Hi,
depends on what a standard SC shall sound like to your ears. My split HR-n sounds like a real SC but misses the quack known from a Strat. My JB perfectly replaces a SC for me. Maybe try the JB-Junior or Lil Screaming Daemon as they have more output than Lil59
Tapping a pickup is differant from splitting the coils of humbucker. Splitting mean you eliminate one coil of a dula coil humbucker...you will not get the tone of a vintage Strat or Tele pickup that way.
Tapping means you start out with an overwound single coil...maybe overwound to 10K. And there are two outputs: one at the end of the coil for 10K output and one attached to the middle of the coil for vintage output....maybe 6.5K.
Split JB isn't bad - higher output buckers are better at splitting than PAF types in general; remember that strat coils are wound to around 6k. That would be 12k for 2 coils.
The stag mag works great for this, but I actually don't like the stagger, and as a bucker it only sounds good at the neck. That's where I have mine.
