Tapped Jazz bass pickup?

Hi guys

Is there anyone here who has tried a tapped Jazz bass pickup?
I've thought about ordering one from the SD Custom Shop!
Was thinking to have this wound to, tapped 8.7 and 9.7 full with 42 plain enamel wire, if there is room for the extra wire windings? Possibly might use a little thicker "higher" bobbin with longer magnets?

thats pretty close for a tap, not sure it would be worth it since the difference would be pretty subtle, noticable though.

im sure the custom shop can do a tapped jazz pup with #42 pe wire. youd have to call them to see if they would have to use a taller magnet

A subtle difference is exactly what I'm looking for. A touch of more midrange and output to have in certain situations, like on solos and doubling bass synth lines and stuff!
Often a small change goes a long way when it comes to tone and sound!

My Kubicki bass, which I had made in 1986, has something like you described:

The maroon-covered Jazz pickup is a Hot Stack for Jazz Bass (STK-J2b) model
(i.e. one coil on top of the other) with a switch to toggle one of the coils on/off.

The split sound is obviously thinned out--but to be honest, I hardly ever use it;
I prefer to get the different sounds from blending the (full) Jazz with the P-Bass
Quarter Pounder pickups. Not sure exactly what the readings are on the Jazz--in
fact, I barely remember requesting to have this feature back then, LOL.
