Tapped SSL-5 Wiring Help

I would like to wire up my Strat so that the SSL-5 has its own push pull tone. Not sure how to do this. Right now it is wired so when the bridge is tapped, the tone is working on the middle pickup, but has no effect on the bridge pickup. If I have the full bridge pickup the tone works on the bridge pickup, but not the middle (which is how it should be). I want the middle pickup to share the tone knob with the neck pickup, or not all. Infact since the tone isn't working when it is tapped, it sounds more like a volume drop when I use the push pull for the bridge pickup, cause the tone setting will completely drop off on the bridge.

I can't figure out how to have the SSL-5 have its own tone that the push/pull works as the tone knob for the bridge pickup whether it is pushed or pulled. Just trying to get the push/pull to tap the pickup, and not effect tone on the other pickups.

What I am trying to do is

5 way switch (like a normal strat configuration)
Master volume
1st tone neck (and middle, if it can be done)
2nd tone (push/pull for bridge where tone works tapped or untapped)

I really dont care if the middle pickup has tone or not.

Thanks for any help I can get on this.

Welcome to Forum! I am sure we can work it out for you, if you send a clear pic or a wiring schematic of your guitar.

Re: Tapped SSL-5 Wiring Help

I will try to get the pickguard off this week and post how its wired. This weekend ended up being far busier than I thought it would be.

Re: Tapped SSL-5 Wiring Help

Right now the 1st tone is the neck and the second tone is the middle, you have no bridge tone?

If you pull the 2nd tone you are getting the tapped bridge?

Re: Tapped SSL-5 Wiring Help

The tone works on the bridge when its not tapped, when the bridge is tapped it switches as a tone control for the middle, but then the bridge has no tone control.

Re: Tapped SSL-5 Wiring Help

Is it even possible to wire up my guitar with the switches I have?

Yes you can. You make clear what is your aim. Then draw a schematic and post it here. Tell us what it should do. We approve it then.
But first: Do you know how to solder? There are pretty good vids on YT.

My guide line would be to use the push/pull only for the tap/full on the bridge. The 5 way switch is for selecting the pups and connecting them to the tone pots. Now its a mixture of both functions, if i am right.

First connect the tone pots with the cap to one side of the 5 way switch. Then SSL 5 first to the push pull the back to other side of the 5 way switch. Sketch that on a paper and in case you need some inspiration look the schematics here at SD.

Re: Tapped SSL-5 Wiring Help

I have no clue how to draw a schematic. I know how to solder, but as for the flow of signals it's been 10 years since I tried out any ideas. I can follow a blueprint but create something I'd have to learn all about pickup wiring again. If that's the case I'll be better off taking it to a guitar shop then spending time trying to figure out how to fix the wiring for the push/pull knob.

I thought maybe someone could point out which wire or wires is incorrectly placed that is causing the tone knob to shift between the bridge and middle depending on the push/pull.

Thanks for the time either way.
