do you use your middle or first finger to tap?

i thought everyone used their middle finger (as its what i was taught) because you dont have to move your pick that way, but then i saw Diminshed (and michael romeo for that matter) tapping with their second finger

just wondering

Re: Tappers!

i USE MY INDEX FINGER BUT I ALSO USE OTHER HAND TO TAP TO MAKE SOME WEIRD MUSIC LIKE KAKI KING KING TYPE STUFF.

Re: Tappers!

I use my Middle Finger to tap- that way I can still have my pick in the playing position between my thumb and index finger. Much easier than trying to fumble around getting that pic back into position- chances are you'll only drop it! <--isn't that another thread?

Re: Tappers!

Middle, but I don't spend much time doing VH type hammerons....probably more for adding a note, a harmonic, or right handed fingerpick. Also fun to tap a note, move it up two frets, bring it back, then release. One cool trick is to do an arpeggio downsweep, add the hammeron with your right hand, slide it up then down, then upsweep the rest of the arpeggio. Jeez, I almost forgot all those old Paul Gilbert tricks.

I remember when that Paul Gilbert lick was the coolest thing I knew.

I'm an index finger guy. I hold my pick between middle and thumb, with the index resting on it, so the index can extend whenever needed.

About the only tapping I do nowadays is at home.

Re: Tappers!

It's pretty easy to flip the pick to the inside of your middle finger when tapping - or at least it's acquired pretty easily. But whenever index starts getting tired or slowed down, I switch. Hell, it's the same sound if you hit it hard enough.

Re: Tappers!

I use my middle finger so i don't have to palm the pick, and i can switch between tapping and picking more easily.
