Tataaaa. Mesa Mark V is here !

Re: Tataaaa. Mesa Mark V is here !

Why? I think having a Mark IIC+ lead and a Mark IV crunch in the same box is cool.

Re: Tataaaa. Mesa Mark V is here !

That's why you buy three heads, one for each mode on each channel. Dial in your favorite sound on each channel&mode, and then you have nine tones to work with before the addition of a pedalboard. :)

I hope you don't laugh at me ,but I seriously playn to get 2 of them ,to have the mark II c+ and extreme mode the same time :)
It's still good price ,if I can import it from the U.S.A instead buying it here in Europe!

Re: Tataaaa. Mesa Mark V is here !

It sure wouldn't bother me to have one. Knobs don't intimidate me whatsoever.

Re: Tataaaa. Mesa Mark V is here !

I am staring to get some serious GAS building up over this one. I currently have an original MK IIC+. I had an original MK III but sold it because they really hadn't got the 3 channel thing figured out at that time, you could never get the volumes balanced properly, and honestly the tone was not great. I replaced it with the MKI re-issue. Far superior tone but eventually got rid of it because I needed/wanted footswitching with the band I was with at the time. Bought the Hearbreaker when it came out because it was supposed to be their anniversary model that incorperated all their tones. It never performed as promised, the tones just weren't there so I sold it (at a farly big loss).
So now the question is will the MK V live up to hype. THere has got to be a bunch of relays/ciruits in there to accomplish all that is promised and I wonder what that will do to the tone. Now they claim that several of the features can be bypassed, why would you build in a bypass if not for the fact that the added circuits really do adversely affect the tone. ANd then if you do bypass many of the bells and whistles is there enough "good tone" and options there to justify buying a new amp.
I think I will definitely have to drive this one around the block a few times to see what it is actually all about.

Do you really need it? Hasn't the JVM got enough channels, modes and knobs to satisfy you? (I see it as a Marshall Road King) And the 5150 surely does the trick when you want 6L6 goodness right?

I completely agree with James: more knobs = more possibilities = more tones.

Re: Tataaaa. Mesa Mark V is here !

I went to a Mesa/Boogie Amp Clinic tour with Andy Timmons back in 2007 here where I live, and the boogie rep mentioned something about the Mark V they were working on. He didn't go into a lot of detail, just basically he said that it was going to be pretty over the top. Now that I've seen it and read the specs and all, this looks REALLY SICK.

I'm not a big into amp heads and 412 cabs, so I'm glad to see that they're making the mark v in a 112 combo. I really dig the look of their natural woodgrain finished amps like the mark I and II.

Looks neat but i don't think I will be parting with my roadking any time soon.

I have a Road King also and I go back and forth between that and my Mark IV. My Mark IV an old A model and I bought it used after it had done a few national tours. I was thinking was getting a replacement just because it has seen much better days and would be fairly expensive to refurb through Mesa (fan, head shell, knobs, caps, tubes, etc.). I think the Mark V would make a good replacement/compliment to my Mark IV.

i had a mark 4for a little while. Both are great amps but from waht i ahve experianced i likeb the cleans i get from the roadking better than the mark 4. Liked the distorion in both though. But i love the vintage mode on channel 3 with the gain at about 12:00 to 1:00. Actually If i was going to do another mesa i would likely do the lonestar. The stilletto sounds interesting as well.

Re: Tataaaa. Mesa Mark V is here !

This amp interests me about as much as watching America's Cup yacht racing, but I saw a video of it being played on the NAMM floor and it sounded really great and versatile.

I think modern multichannel amp designers are getting better at negating tonal degradation by preserving signal path and making control layouts more useable. Some even seem to have gotten around the compressed feel that plagues (enhances?) amps like the XTC and Diezel Herbert.

Re: Tataaaa. Mesa Mark V is here !

Looks like a nifty unit there. As for the number of knobs...meh...my JVM has four channels...no problem dialing in tones. Most of 'em are set at noon anyway.

I'm puzzeld by the 6L6/EL34 switch though. I would want that puppy to be a flat switch you flip with your fingernail or a pen tip.

agreed!! i also agree that its easier to get a recto to sound like a mark than the other way around. honestly, lamb of god's tone is pretty well the best rep. of the mark tone i can think of...

Re: Tataaaa. Mesa Mark V is here !

Well, how close does a Mark IV get to Recto? I've never played any of the Mark-series amps.

Well ,it's more focused ,more defined tone .Maybe a roadking with some pedals can get really close ,but the tightness of a Mark is it's signature ,and the recto is the opposite of it.
