Taylor 110 w/ HSC - $370 shipped
I recently acquired this in a trade, but really don't have any need for it. Although, I must say that it is a fantastic guitar. Guitars this low in price should not sound this good. I just can't believe that an acoustic this low in price could have so much depth and projection. I don't think that this is a rare occurence either as this line gets fantastic reviews.
Anyway, this particular one is used but in excellent condition; it's got some light dings/scratches here and there that can only be seen at certain angles. The finish is satin, so the guitar picks up dings more easily than a gloss finish. But I do really like the feel of the satin finish. As far as cosmetic condition, I'd probably give it an 8.5-9.0. None of the dings/scratches could be picked up by the camera, so I could not get any shots of the dings.
I'd probably rate the action as medium. The action is right where I prefer it. It's not so low that the tone suffers, but it's also not so high that it's hard to play. I like the action at a medium height to give it more projection, depth, and volume. If you wanted to have the action lower, you'd probably have to have the neck adjusted; the saddle is relatively low. Thankfully, these Taylor 110's have the NT ("New Technology") design necks and a neck adjustment is a 10 minute job involving Taylor laser-precise shims. The adjustment is no bigger deal than having the saddle sanded. The playability of the guitar is great with the smaller neck profile (similar to electric guitar necks), satin finish, and the ebony fretboard. A dedicated electric guitarist would feel right at home. Also, there is a little fretwear at the first fret and zero fretwear on all of the other frets.
Tone wise, this guitar is a monster. These Taylor 110's really do sound very good. Taylor is almost making a mistake for having such good sounding guitars selling for so cheap ($600 new). It has a very full, deep, resonant tone with nice bright highs. It currently has some Ernie Ball Earthwound Lights (12's) that could probably use a change in the near future. With new strings the guitar would sound even better.
The case is actually a slightly worn Alvarez case that is a nice, tight fit for the Taylor. It's a little beat looking on the outside, but does its job well. Unfortunately, it does not lock as the lock is busted. It'd be a really nice looking case if it weren't a little beat; it has a really nice brown tolex on it. Although the outside is a little beat, the inside is fine.
