Taylor 150e 12 string?

Anyone have or play one of these?? I'm sure its not a dog cuz its a Taylor, but just wondering how comfy it is to play? I want a 12string, but dont want to spend alot of money as Im sure it wont be a daily player. I also dont want get POS by trying to save money too. I dont have any way to get my hands on one to check it out. Just thought Id ask. thanks

I wish Id have bought one of the Takamine's that Sweetwater had on sale for black friday.. They were like $350. They are regular price now and close to the price of the Taylor

If I were to get a 12 string, it would be a Taylor. Their necks seem to play the best with that many strings, and the nut work is better than less expensive 12 strings. There's nothing worse than having a 12 string with a high cut nut......you're constantly fighting intonation and tuning problems until it's done right.

I too wanted a Taylor 12-string; had my eye on a 655-CE, but it was too much money for the use it would get.

I looked for a long time at a lot of different brands, and finally found a used Takamine EF381SC. Invested in a setup, and couldn't be happier. The CTB-4 preamp is one of the best I've heard. I actually like the plugged-in tone far better than the Taylor ES. The Guitar Center closed them out and I bought a second one brand new and dirt cheap. First Taks I've played that I really fell in love with. Bad news: they are gloss black; I think they make their own fingerprints just to spite me. :)

Taylor vs. Guild? Personally, I would choose Taylor. I like their brighter tone, and the Taylor NT neck joint is better than Guild's dovetail. There's a lot of pressure on that neck joint, and the NT neck is a bolt-on design that is easily serviced.

But if you don't want to spend a boatload of money on a Taylor or Guild, then I'd highly recommend the EF-381SC.

I scored a beautiful Taylor Koa 12 and since I got my Martin d28, the Taylor just hangs on the wall. It's too pretty and plays too well to sell. But only so much guitar time in my world.

Guild used to be the go to 12 string, but Taylor has overtaken them. The action on any model Taylor 12 is vastly superior to Guild. The high end tone that I personally despise in Taylor 6 strings is actually very helpful in their 12 strings.
Also the guy says money is an issue and you absolutely cannot quibble about the value of a Taylor when he just thank god avoided getting a Takamine 12.

I would put my '76 Guild F212XL up against any 12 string. ;)

It comes down to a personal thing. The majority of Taylors I've played tend to be too bright to my ears, especially their 12 Strings (which already have an added amount of treble with the added strings.) Guilds just sound more full, lush, warm and rich.

One can't say one is better than the other–that's why I said in my opinion no company can touch Guild ;)

I figured that it was a tone thing. My brother in law has a '64 Guild 12 that I would say beats most, but even that beautiful guitar requires strong hands to muscle out that great tone. As you say, personal preference.
However, I found that working in a duo situation that the typical brightness of a Taylor 12 was helpful to avoid overpowering the 6 string. My partner had a Breedlove 12 that did not do either thing well, slow action and not superior tone, so for him a Taylor was a step up.

I will say Taylor has some of the best feeling necks out there. Has your brother in law ever gotten the action adjusted? Get the nut and saddle adjusted by someone who knows what they are doing and it will play like butter ;)

I've played some Breedloves that were very nice; however, I think they are a bit overpriced personally.

My brother in law is a 50 years pro who has toured Europe so I assume his action has been adjusted, though one never do know. The Guild plays fine for me and you and my brother in law. Didja know that Mr Breedlove works again at Taylor? I believe that the heavy duty computerization at Taylor allows for consistently fast action.

50 Year pro? So he's what 60-70 at least? At that age any 12 string would be hard to play! ;) jk

The easiest playing acoustic I've ever played was a Martin HD28, not a Taylor. But Taylors typically come setup easier to play than a lot of other brands–that was what I loved about it as an advanced beginner. Now I listen to an acoustic for tone and worry about getting it setup later–necks can be adjusted, saddles and nuts can be replaced, etc but you can't replace tone. But setup and playbility is, like tone, a personal thing. Some people like super low action while others like medium, high, etc. :)

I know next to nothing about Breedlove other than they have some very unique offerings and I've played some I liked and others I didn't. lol

An old pastor I had had one of those huge bodied Guild 12 strings and OMG.. What a monster... I didnt hurt that he was a top notch player too.. That thing sounded like a cannon and soo nice. But Im looking on the cheap and the Guild is way out of range..

Seagulls are nice too! But the one with electronics is almost the price of the Taylor. If I go without the electronics, then that is def feasible.. Plus I like how the seagulls play too. Not better than Taylors, but better than many Ive tried..

My only point was to start with something affordable. I'm just not sure how much they really get played.

I played a Tak 12 that was very nice as well as a super cheap Fender that sounded very good as well. You can usually find 12 string Ovations on Craigslist–very loud and get a decent sound to me. :) Best of luck!

I played one of the Taylor 150's today. It is not as warm as my dreadnought Takamine EF381SCs, but my guitars have been played quite a bit. I did not plug it in, but I think I would also prefer the Tak in that circumstance--I've not had good luck with the Taylor ES. However, I think this Taylor a pretty cool guitar for the player who is using a 12-string as a secondary guitar, and isn't willing to spend a lot of money. It hits a reasonable price point.

YES, Thats the plan. dont want (and cant afford to spend alot) BUT, want something that will sound good, play great and hold up too.. I bought a used 12 (yamaha which are usually pretty good) on ebay a couple years back and it was a POS.. So, again, cant spend alot, but want something inspiring too..

yeah, thats what Im thinking.. If the Taylor was the price of "normal" taylors at $1k plus, would be a no can do.. But this seems to be a nice price. More than I orig wanted to spend, but not much more than competitive line models..

Thanks for all the input guys!! Its not a done deal yet, so any other ideas welcome!

I missed out on an Alvarez 12-string(3-p/up system) that was incredible & rather cheap,still kicking myself for that one...Even moreso now.

Well let me put it this way...if the headstock had said Taylor......it would have cost even more.....
