Re: taylor acoustics?

I went through the whole range of Taylor guitars and stopped at the 914CE model, that was very nice but I could not justify the price tag that they wanted for it. The expression system is very good as well and I had some acoustic amps that I was trying out (AER) and it just sounded so sweet. I have Takamines, Fyldes in my collection and use them more in any acoustic sets that I do.

Now what I really want is a good old Martin 000-28ECB (only $9999)

Re: taylor acoustics?

I have an 814CE.. I have many electrics and am always gassing for more. and looking at different ones. I have one accoustic. Never look at others.. Except a Taylor 12 string.. Maybe someday...

Re: taylor acoustics?

that's the way i feel...if and when i get my Taylor...i won't even look at another acoustic...

Heard that one before - so when another Taylor walks by you will not even look at it your eyes will be shielded/blinded in the knowledge that you don't want another one!!!

Re: taylor acoustics?

Taylor's are pricey, but I think they are on par with all of the other top producers (like Martin). they are handmade in San Diego. And to boot, they are sort of the cutting edge in guitar technology. I have played many, and I own several acoustic guitars, but none are as fun to play and nice as taylors. my baby taylor is my favorite guitar to play in my whole lot!

Re: taylor acoustics?

I had a Taylor 615C. I traded it for a Santa Cruz OM. The best thing I ever did. Taylors are good Acoustics for Electric guitar players. If you are a true Acoustic guitar player you will be much happier with a Martin!!

Re: taylor acoustics?

well...i might "look" at one...but like i said before...i've played almost every make and model out there...the taylor was divine...

of course i wouldn't mind one of those mahogany martins...just to have...but my ears are in a state of utopia when i hear & play the taylor...

Re: taylor acoustics?

The best two acoutics I've owned are my current Martin D-28 and my
old Martin DR and Taylor 410.

Like most luthiers, I've come to the conclusion that the Martins sound the
best, but the Taylors have the best playing neck. If only my D-28 had
the same frets as Taylors! After getting the D-28, I'm DONE, but a
Taylor 12 string is something I've always wanted.

The best Taylor IMO is the 810. That's the only Taylor I'd swap my Martin for.
I just wish Taylor would use Rosewood backs a lot more than they do.
They seem to really love Mahogany backs, which I don't. Rosewood is where the big, articulate low end comes from.

Here's some pics of my 414RCE... how's that for Rosewood!!! By the way, that's not a scratch on the back... just bad photography.

Re: taylor acoustics?

My Taylor plays almost as well as my Les Paul, but my singers Guild sounds better when we are not plugged into the P.A. :scratchch

to me acoustics with stainless steel frets(like taylors) really take away from the great choice of the wood that they put on taylors. I really have to say Tacoma's are alot higher quality plus there cheaper.

haha is it me or do you enjoy bashing alot of brands? ...just an observation.....

anyways, ya taylors are great i think they feel like elctric necks mainly because i think taylors have bolt on necks? i might b mistaken but i belivei read that somewhere. either way great guitars i wold lvoe to own one but i need a good electric before i go over board witht henacoustics. But if you have the cash go for it man! top of the line!

Re: taylor acoustics?

nice observation on my so called "bashings" that are really my way of explaining the flaws of some of the most "mainstream" brands that jack the **** out of the price when there are lesser known brands that make better products for lower price. I'm trying to help people open there minds to other brands and if i gotta say **** sometimes and hurt peoples feelings some times to do it , so be it, i'm not making any appologies.

Re: taylor acoustics?

Taylor's sure is purty. But....I'll stick with my 64 Gibson J-50, and my 58 Martin D-18. I'm just funny that way. :)

Re: taylor acoustics?

I have a D-28 and D-35 I bought new almost 30 years ago. Love 'em - Martin wrote the book, IMHO.

that said, I always look at the Taylor 714CE when I get a chance, and that would be my pick for my next acoustic. Plays well, sounds great.

I've heard that comment about Taylors being for electric players - it's nothing new. The first guitar that Bob Taylor made was a 12 string that he actually wanted to be playable, and to this day, Taylor's 12 strings are notable. If anything, the comment about "electric players" should be turned around, since Taylor's success made Martin rethink the playability of their instruments.

I'm not a Martin snob, but joneser's right (as usual) - Martin's sound better ... they just have a fine, "etched" tone. But Taylor makes a very nice, very playable acoustic that I think most of us would enjoy owning.

there are many other fine acoustics out there now as well - Collings, Santa Cruz, Lowden, Alvarez-Yairi .... as with a lot of gear, we live in good times.

Peace
