As a Taylor fanboi, Ive taken notice of these for quite some time, but being more of an electric guy, I didnt get too into them. Awhile back I saw one in a music zoo (or someplace add) that was blue flame maple. Gorgeous!!! Yesterday, I got to play one. (not the blue one, thankfully). WOW! What fun!! Tho it definately doesnt sound like a full acoustic , the acoustic tone was bigger and better than I expected. And plugged in had fun variety of tones and could get almost tele like. And the playability was incredible!! I did a search and found alot of old threads about them. But since they were all pretty old, I figured Id start a new one..
First, what you guys think of them? I saw in the old thread Gearjonser was quite fond of them.. (except the price) Also, what do you guys like or dislike about the different models of the series?? T5 vs the T5z vs.... The one I played was the T5 with the koa top. Was used, so it was "only" $1799.

Ultimately, this is the one I want: (but way out of my league)

Purty!!!

And yeah, I've fallen in love with Tayler electrics ever since I laid my hands on their first single cut with mini-hums. LOVED it. STILL want one but still can't justify it.

I really like the concept behind them and really really wanted to like them...just never did it for me. That being said, really like the idea behind them and can see how some musicians can really make these guitars sing.

I just bought a Taylor 214ce DLX acoustic, and while acoustically the guitar surpassed anything in its price range, plugging it into a simple amplified studio monitor yielded amazing results, it sounded way better than the unplugged tone- the secret being the onboard electronics that Taylor developed, which appear to be close to the T5 electronics.

Re: Taylor T5? Opinions/ Model preferences??

I've never been a big fan of Taylor's acoustics. They (Taylors) are really good for what they are, which IMO is an acoustic guitar for electric guitar players that want something easy to play, that sounds balanced, and can be used live without much hassle. I don't feel like most of them project very well, and I've always found them too pricey. If I was going to drop that kind of money on a guitar, I'd go with a Collings D2HG, personally.

I have a totally different opinion on the T5 and their electrics. I LOVE all of the electric lines. The T3 is awesome to play, and the solid bodies sound and feel amazing.

The T5, though, is where it shines for me. A buddy of mine has one, and I've wanted one ever since I saw him gig with it. With the right rig you can get convincing acoustic tones and killer electric tones. In this instance, the right rig is an ABY box where the A goes to a DI or acoustic amp and the B goes to your favorite electric setup. Through an acoustic amp or a DI into the PA, I can't tell the difference between the T5 and an acoustic when an entire band is playing. As noted, when run through an electric setup, it has a wide variety of tones available. I've gone back and forth on picking up a used on for a while, but it's never been a priority. Some day I'll probably get one.
