TB - 16 or TB - 14 ?

I am choosing a humbucker for the bridge position in my Ibanez S570dxqm.

Through researching on the SD site and youtube it seems it's a toss up between the TB - 14 Custom 5 and the TB - 16 '59 Custom Hybrid.

I play mostly rock and pop. 80's pop in particular so am looking for something that will sound good clean and in single coil mode.

In this video :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKysmKXVo8w the 16 Custom Hybrid sounds great. Very bright but how much of this is down to the fact that it's in a telecaster?

In this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2VTHWufh_M the 14 Custom 5 sounds sweet when split.

What are everyone's thoughts on these 2 pickups?

For what you're looking for, the TB-16 is probably best. It has a coil from a 59 and a coil from a Custom 5. Split, you can choose either the 59 or Custom 5 coil, so you'll have quite a wide variety of tones. Combined, it has plenty of power, and it will be a little less output than the Custom 5.

Two very different models. The C5 has scooped mids and the Hybrid has very open and jangly mids. They should really sound about same when split if you split it to the slug coil, as that is the same coil in both models using the same A5 magnet. It really depends on what is going on with the guitar you have and what you want to accomplish. Be careful to not limit your listening and viewing to a few samples...remember that just about everyone of them are different and even if they have the same rig as you, their hands are still not yours...so getting as much exposure as possible to the models you like would be best, if you are going that route. Check out Keith Merrow's comparison video on YouTube of all the hight output Duncan models - no idea why that isn't made a sticky.

Thanks for the reply I've checked most of the SD stuff on youtube and the SD site, just looking at a few more now.

Yes you're right the 16 is a lot more jangly than the 14 which is what I like.

I have a Stag Mag in the neck. What are they like in the bridge?

+1 It's a great introduction to some of the Duncan lineup.

Exactly. Whoever is steering this ship on the forum should consider an easy to find option for the demo videos. I mean, aren't they being used to promote and help sell the products, for stapp's sake.

Best "official" Duncan video ever:

Even with a huge pile of pickups to try, that one is still on my list.
