TB-4 JB Trembucker in a swamp ash Strat

I've had this new Strat made out of replacement parts for about 10 days but I haven't really tested it yet until today when I have had a little time to myself.

I am really happy.

It's a wonderful guitar that cost a fraction of a high end custom guitar and I can say it holds up really well!
I did get it put together and set up by a very good luthier and that probably makes a difference.

Anyway, here's an impro using just the JB Trembucker through a POD (JCM900 amp model with a little compression and delay).

I put both 250k volume and tone pots in my Strat and I can say the the JB is really FAT sounding now! :dance:

I used to have a JB in an Ibanez some time ago and I kept twidling the tone knob all the time. Too shrill. Now, it's perfect for me.

I like the sound of the JB with a 250K. I am impressed with the tone vs. A jb with 500k

I think there's a big difference in how a JB sounds with a 250K vs 500K pots. It sounds a lot more 'open' with the 500K in my opinion. With the 250K the high end seems somewhat attenuated...at least that's how it sounds to me! This is the kind of question that makes me want to build a test circuit that can A/B between 2 pots (250 and 500) and just record the results right into cakewalk or pro tools so that a comparison is not colored by string changes, etc.

Well I agree with your description of the differences, between the two I prefer the attenuted highs of the 250k pot in an ash (bright) guitar.
In an alder of mahagony guitar I might consider a 500k pot, but I did not like one in a basswood guitar I had. It really depends how much gain you use and what style you play. I don't play metal and similar very overdriven genres so I don't need a very bright pickup to cut through the mud. I like the fattness and growl I get now at semi overdiven, clean and moderately distorted settings with this pot.

I use a POD 1.0 upgraded to a POD 2.0 with a new chip ("Brit High Gain" for this clip).

I really think there is no hard and fast rule. I have changed pickups and settings from one band to the next, sometimes even because a different drummer stepped in! It's all a question of frequencies.

Actually, I like the 250K pots for a more '80's metal tone...dude...heheh.

It's a little less 'complex' sounding to my ears with the 250K, which is great sometimes. I'm playing it with a 500K in my ash Strat and it sounds awesome there. I agree with you regarding the use of different settings for different band setups. I find it takes me awhile to find a niche in the frequency spectrum. Ain't it funny that if you don't do that, you can be at good volume levels but just get lost in the mix?

I use the POD 2.0 myself for practice at home, it's a nice unit.

Satriani comes to my mind when I think of the JB through a pumped Marshall with 250k pots.

Anyway I use 250k pots on my mahagony custom guitar with Rio Grande BBQ/Texas pickups, as well...so I guess I just like it that way.

I don't find the 'buckers lack brightness that way and the cleans are more than useable.

Oh yeah. The JB sounds great with that setup for 80's metal. I used it in a Strat through a 5150 with 4x12. Sounded killer.
