I'll leave the tonal description to someone who's played those pickups through a mesa, but I think a Distortion would win in a fight if you personified the pickups.

The distortion is in my guitar now but it seems a little too hot and a little thin on the leads. Is there a pickup that lets the amp supply more gain than the pickup and has an open uncompressed sound with the output of a JB without the harshness of the JBs highs and lacking lows????

More bass than a JB, a more open, less compressed sound. It doesn't have the harshness of the JB's high mid spike. It is medium output and is a great balance of driving the amp and letting the amp do the work.

I thank you for your advise. Sounds like you are right. Hopefully guitar center has these in stock so I can trade in my distortion for one, my luck they probably have to special order from BFE? Do you know if these come as trembuckers?? The spacing on my Shecter is F spaced. Does having the trembucker version of a pickup change the tone compared to a regular pickup?? Thanx again.

Yes, the C5 can be had 'F' spaced. Is the tone different between a normally spaced and 'F' spaced pup? No, rather it's the tremolo itself that bleeds out a bit of the high end, but it's not that big of a deal.

Distortion would kill them all.... but they are all fine pickups for your gear, just different.

The schecter guitar I have is bright. Would the c5 be too bright for a schecter c-1-plus guitar???

Kill them all with gain or tone overall????????

I think the Distortion is the most balanced pickup of that bunch.

I dont like the C5, absent mids, anemic highs. Makes me sound like I wasn't *there* ??!

TB3... no idea.

JB: does it really need a description ?

The C5 has mids. Definitely prominent if you turn up your amp's mids. It really just sounds balanced to me.

I'll vote for the Blues Trembucker. Medium output, even EQ curve, plenty of clarity while still having more warmth than the C5 or distortion. It's one of the more versatile pickups in the Duncan lineup, but no one really knows about it because it's such a specialized model.

I have a TB3 in my ibanez 560 and it sounds as good as the Ibanez can. I think I will try it in the Shecter and reply as to what it sounds like later this week.I am going for as close as I can get to a Les Paul tone with a JB but Less compressed and more airy without the shrill. I just tried my friends LP with my voodoo modded dual rectifier that I just got back today and it slams but a little too compressed and that high spike thing yuk. But it came real close to my dream tone. The shecter with the distortion pickup sounded pretty good but too gainy and the guitar sounded like a semi hollow body compared to the LP with a JB in the bridge. Not sure how much the pickup had to do with it though. All in all I guess a LP is in my future whenever I hit the lotto.
