New fix. Polytune iPhone app. Fraction of the price. No interference in your signal chain. Great in studio. No help on stage.

FWIIW, I find the onboard tuner in the TC Electronic RH450/Staccato'51 bass amp head to be extremely fussy. At least, that isn't in the signal chain.

I dig it a lot. My other guitarist got one too. We gig every weekend, 4 sets a nite. We change strings every other week so sometimes tuning is an issue...a hot, sweaty stage probably adds to the issue. I like that if I sound a bit outta tune, i can find the string(s) in a second and tune...inbetween songs. We're both anal tone/gear freaks...if that tuner sucked, it woulda been gone.

I really like mine, I doubt it's as accurate as the Strobostomp I used to use but it is quicker on stage and the switch doesn't make a loud pop! I don't notice any problems with tone loss or the bottom E being flat.

I have a Polytune now and love it. Haven't had a single issue with it. It tracks well, doesn't suck tone in bypass mode, and I like that I can power the other 2 devices on my board (boost pedal and wireless receiver) directly from it. I power it with a Visual Sound One Spot and don't get any of the noise I've read about.

Re: Planet Waves tuners. Good tuners, I still have the Chromatic pedal tuner, but the battery tab snapped so the compartment lid (foot treadle) bounces now and doesn't stay put and it is not true bypass even though it was claimed to be (they used fancy buzz words like true hard-wire bypass so I had my suspicion).

I've recently moved to the pitchblack after about 10 years of using Boss tuners. The Polytone was in the running but the reviews were mixed while the pitchblack gets only positives every where I looked.

I'm discovering that the Polytune is basically useless with my Taylor acoustic. I used it for an acoustic duo show last night, and it wouldn't even track on the high strings. It works just fine with my electric.

So now I have to decide if I either want to keep it and get a Pitchblack, or get a Pitchblack and sell it. I wouldn't mind keeping it and giving it to the other guy in my band without a floor tuner, but he plays acoustic pretty much all the time :banghead:

I do need to amend this statement.

I thought I had the tuner set to 1/2 step down, but it appears I didn't. In my acoustic duo we play 1/2 step down, and it tracks much better since I finally figured out I was in standard tuning mode. Doh. Still not the best on my acoustic, but certainly much better.

I've never had a problem tuning a guitar that is 1/2 step down while the tuner is still in standard mode. Tracking has been spot on. I use it exclusively with my electrics though. I have another tuner with a mic that I use for my Martin and my Ibby acoustic has a built-in tuner.
