Tech 21 dUg Ultra Bass 1000

Re: Tech 21 dUg Ultra Bass 1000

A Tech 21 bass head makes as much sense as just about anything I can think of.

Re: Tech 21 dUg Ultra Bass 1000

I was assuming they just didnt want to do amplification and wanted to stick to preamps and pedals, along with the "well, we also have this thing you can plug it into if you want" amp. I hope its class D lightweight stuff.

Re: Tech 21 dUg Ultra Bass 1000

Ummm... They've been doing guitar and bass amplification for years...

Re: Tech 21 dUg Ultra Bass 1000

I would really like to hear a true demo recording (one without the high treble compression artifacts), because right now Frank's right: it sounds epic.

Re: Tech 21 dUg Ultra Bass 1000

Its not gonna be cheap. The VT Bass 1000 is over a grand. Sounds great though.

Re: Tech 21 dUg Ultra Bass 1000

Love Pinnick and have listened to the KXM CD more than any other this past year. But, my eyes aren't on that bass amp, it's the 4 vintage Marshall halfstacks in the background.

Re: Tech 21 dUg Ultra Bass 1000

wow, I just checked out the KXM stuff, I dig! :)

dUg stole the free show in Austin Fourth of July last year that featured Slash, Chino from the Deftones, and others

Re: Tech 21 dUg Ultra Bass 1000

He didn't really steal it if it was free though, did he. More like "first guy to claim the show and took it", really.

Re: Tech 21 dUg Ultra Bass 1000

I got a Tech 21 Landmark 300 bass amp in 2012 when Musician's Friend offered them as their Stupid Deal of the Day.
It's a really nice amp. Very flexible EQ and both channels are voiced very musically. I'm very interested in hearing their SVT-voiced amps, or trying the VT DI running into the power amp input of my Landmark 300.

The tone that dUg had dialed in in the video wouldn't really be my thing, but then again, looking at the front of the amp at 0:06 in the video, I would think there is enough flexibility in the EQ section to dial in something to suit my tastes.

Re: Tech 21 dUg Ultra Bass 1000

I went on tech 21's site and did some reading up on this amp. It's not just a Tech 21 bass amp with some voicing tweaks based on dUg's input. Check this out.
It was designed in collaboration with dUg to create a single amp capable of achieving the unique sound he developed by running a guitar amp and a bass amp together, plus using a handful of effects, to merge high-end distortion with low-end bass.

There is an unconventional structure to the channels. Rather than switching from one channel to the other, the intent is to use both channels mixed or Channel 2 by itself. Channel 1 handles the role of a distorted guitar amp and Channel 2 provides a clean pre-amp and compressor for a more conventional bass amp sound. Mixed together, you get dUg.

In addition to changing channels, the included Footswitch controls the MIX function, which simultaneously engages both channels.

There's the option to just run through one channel and get a conventional bass amp tone, but the amp is designed to be able to run the two channels in parallel, where one is clean and the other can be overdriven.
