Tech 21 SansAmp Gt2 ¿worth?

I am hearing a lot of positive comments about the Tech 21 gt2 pedal, but I don´t understand the function of it?... Of what I heard is a tube emulator...If I have a tube amp it wont work 100%?...Other thing is that I have heard it clean and drive so it has a lot of sounds...And with other distortion pedals plugged to it....If anyone knows the function and pros of this pedal please share it...

tech 21 was one of the first modeling amp/pedals- the best one before Line 6. Some still prefer Tech 21 since it's analog and not digital.

Hi jjguitar--

Welcome to the forum!

I like the GT2 very much - Its a combination amp/speaker emulator; just use it like a stompbox in front of a guitar amp or plug it into a line input to a mixer.

It's the first thing I reach for if I want to go straight to the mixing board (usually through a tube preamp). I've got Pod, Yamaha DGStomp, Tubeman, and others, but the GT2 is very simple and versatile and makes a lot of good sounds.

In addition to input level, high and low tone, and drive controls you select "amp" type (california, british, or tweed), "mod" type (hot-wired, hi-gain, or clean), and "mic" position (off-axis, center, or classic).

You can't go wrong with this box.

I have had 2 and still have one. I have had an amp go down on stage and the GT2 saved me, ran it straight to the PA. It has 3 rows of 3 switches. One row is a set of 3 amp sounds, Fender, Marshall and Mesa. All are different and all sound good. The second row of 3 switches are for gain amounts. These go from clean to tear your head off gain. The third row of 3 switches is for simulated Mic placements, which really do little just slight differences. The GT2 works best for me with a low gain tube amp and older solid state amps. I did use it with these amps and got great results :
Marshall JCM800
Traynor TS100
Roland BluesCube BC-30
Fender Princeton Silverface (1970)
Kustom WAV 210
