Re: Technical death brutal pickups help

The Dimebucker is brutal, might be a great choice. I would also suggest the Invader, I'm a big fan of it, and it's got a good bit of Brutality!

Rock On :headbang:

Re: Technical death brutal pickups help

I'd honestly go with an EMG 85. It'll have insane definition, and be heavy as all hell.

Re: Technical death brutal pickups help

Since NJ Riches are Mahagony i guess the invader might turn into lots of mud in it,esspecially if you downtune. In my experience the Dimebucker is a great PUP in NJ Riches, for playing downtuned stuff.

Re: Technical death brutal pickups help

I've used both the Invader and the Dimebucker in a mahogany guitar. If you're playing rhytm, I can def recomment the Invader. It never sounded muddy in my guitar, just nice and cruchy. The only downside is that its terrible for soloing. Its not that the tone is bad (on the contrary), its just due to the heavy bass/no trble definition, itwon't really cut through.

Te DImebucker, I must say, is one of the worst pickups I've ever tried, DON'T get it, its total crap

If you liked the all bass/no treble sound of the invader in mahogany then that's a good indication of why you didn't like the Dimebucker; just because it didn't work for you doesn't make it total crap....it just means it didn't work for your application.

+1 my thoughts exactly on the Invader and also about the same thing I think about the Dime! I have tried these pickups in numerous guitars with similar results.

I would recomend the Distortion or the Full Shred for this fellow myself!

Re: Technical death brutal pickups help

I think it would be right to go for an EMG 81 or 85, depending on whether you want upper-mid crunchiness of the 81 or what some call the more rounded/mid-heavier sound of the 85. In Flames uses the 85, and they tune all the the way down to C standard and Drop Bb, keeping definition and crunch.

Which Marshall amp do you have exactly?

BTW: WFD/JP, your EMG 81/85 demo clip has some killer riffage in it!! I love your pedalling on the E string, and your soloing.

If you want to go active... 85 in the bridge all the way, and 81 wouldn't be a good idea for your style.

If you want to go passive... SD FullShred, very defined, would be perfect for you.

Re: Technical death brutal pickups help

I just got a Dimebucker yesterday! I found it is very articulate. It also has a lot of high end without sounding tinny.
