Teflon Coated/Shielded Wire

I saw this wire offered via an online vendor. Do you wire your strats with this? If I were to install an aluminum shielding pickguard, would this shielded wire be worthwhile to install as well on my JV strat?

I believe it's actually, silver-coated copper wire with a teflon insulator.

Did they tell you what the teflon coating is for? I've never heard anything about it. I just use a 24 gage shielded cable from Radio Shack with foils around both the pickup and pot cavity and it works well.

I'll give that a try. Does that protect against fluorescent lights and neon sign interference?

Teflon wire is used for high-temperature applications. It's good in tube amps, but most of us DIY amp guys use it because it holds up under over-eager soldering. Normal plastic insulation melts if you hold the iron on there too long.

The problem with telfon insulation is that it's slippery; very hard to grip with your fingers while stripping it.

Apex Jr. is a good vendor for DIY-size orders of teflon wire.

The shielding on the cable only protects the wire. The foil, if grounded correctly, should protect your whole cavity from the RFs and hums unless you have a dirty power line going into your amp. My Strat was so quiet that my other band members thought my amp was not even on.
