Tele 4 way switch confusion

I've gotten myself some new everything for a full makeover of a tele of Mine. The 4 way switch seemed like it was a ggreat choice
Anyway, what I'm confused about is how it says that I need to add a new ground wire to the cover. I tried soldering said new wire to the cover plate of the neck pickup and the solder didn't want to stay there. So I'm thinking I've got something wrong here
Something else is that I'm seeing several ways to wire the cap, on the middle lug and the back of tthe tone pot and also between both the tone and volume pot, what's the difference there?
Also if it helps, the pickups I'm adding is a Seymour Duncan 5/2 set

Re: Tele 4 way switch confusion

Take a look at the SD neck position pickup. On the lower fibreboard plate, where the black ground conductor meets the soldering eyelet, there should also be another short length of wire. This connects the eyelet to the metal pickup cover. Unsolder only the cover end of this wire. Move the free end into a position where it cannot come into contact with the metal cover.

Next, at the point where the old ground wire used to be soldered, clean away as much as possible of the old solder. This is the point to which the new cover ground wire should be soldered.

A soldering iron of 25w or above is advisable.
