What about the top on that same guitar? Is that a flamed cedar? I've not seen a grain pattern like that on flame maple.

OMG Curly!! What guitar is that? It is freaking incredible looking!!! I love Gretsch Orange, but I have always wanted a nice loud looking sparkle Tele.

I love Gretsch orange, too. A tele would look amazing done up like that... but I'd prefer to reserve Gretsch orange for the Gretsch that I'll own... someday.

IMO the best Tele's are made from swamp ash although Alder makes a great Tele too...

Voice of dissent here...Ash is the classic Tele wood, but I like alder better...fills in the mids a bit..without getting too full..with a typical vintage type tele bridge pup, alder still yields plenty of bite/twang and brashness, and the neck pickup/middle positions end up being a little more versatile.

You get the WRONG piece of ash laugh2: sounds funny), and it will turn a tele bridge pup into the icepick in the ears from hell.

This is assuming a maple board...rosewood board would help with an ash body.

My opinion of course.

the stripe is an inlay, made of maple, walnut and rosewood on this beautiful 1p-hard ash body ... it's the builder's logo !!

... and I like it !!! :smokin:

The top isn't maple but Tiger-striped ash ... very thin veneer !!

It's my Tele-project body - the neck's just being built ... !!

Here is what I'll be doing. I have thought about this for a while now. I have in my mind all of the gripes that I have with Teles from a playability standpoint. I have been in contact with Tommy at USACG to build my ultimate/dream (main) Tele.

I have asked him to spec/price me out a body with Swamp Ash, tummy cut and forearm contour, top bound and with a middle Strat PUP route. I am thinking very seriously about an Orange Sparkle finish.

At some point before I have it finished and maybe after I will have some sort of B bender installed.

this sounds alot like an American Deluxe...don't know about the routing though and i'm pretty sure they're alder...but the cut/contour/binding/finish are spot on?!

i've been g.a.ssing for that bad boy ever since i layed my eyes/hands on one!!! the color in person is absolutely breathtaking!!!!

you'll have to find a NOS or a used one though to get the Candy Tangerine color though...they replaced it with Olympic White this year...bleh!

I'd go either alder or swamp ash. The Am Standard I just sold was alder I believe. Sure sounded like it, but it was heavy piece of wood. The total guitar weight is 8 lbs.. One of the best sounding Tele's I ever played. I only hope that when the time comes that I can build one with a neck profile that works for me that it'll sound/play as good.
