Tele bridge pu issues

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum but a long time SD user. I recently purchased a used 2001 American standard. Great guitar. Swamp ash, maple neck. Very bright. I wanted to throw a noise canceling humbucker type into the bridge as that's my tone preference. After long thought, I went with the custom shop pearly gates. After install the pickup sounds amazing! but I had some "tele" bridge plate microphonic, resonant issues. A simple touch or tap would send the whole guitar body into fits. After reason for a couple of days I seem to have the problem for the most part under control but she still howls a little. Also, I decided to rewrite her reversing the green and black wires per the sd diagram since I am still using the fender neck pickup. My question is, since I have done this, yes my middle combined pickup setting is louder and clearer, but I feel as if the full bridge setting is weaker and muddier. Is this normal? Should I just yank the fender neck up out and throw a jazz or something else in the neck and revert the wiring to standard?! Also any tele tweaks and fixes to keep the guitar in check with pu's please share. This is my main axe and she needs to rock! Many thanks.

Re: Tele bridge pu issues

The squeal issue may be due to mounting the pickup via springs as opposed to rubber tubing sections. It is possible that the longer screws required for the PG pickup are making physical contact with the bottom of the routed cavity. This could transmit vibration along the screw and affect the pickup. (Only could!)

The tonal balance produced is a matter of how the guitar is set up, how the pickup has been adjusted and your amplifier control settings.

The guitar came with tubing instead of springs stock and I used the stick screws.

As for pickup setup. I don't have much to work with. The big fat sd cable takes up a lot of space and pushed on the pu. I wrapped it around the pickup inside the cavity and that helped bit I think I need longer tubing so I can lower the pickup more. Otherwise the screws float on the bridge plate and that's a sound issue on its own.
