Tele Bridge to Match Antiquity II Mini Humbucker Neck?

Hello,
I have an AreoDyne Telecaster, that I installed an Antiquity II Mini Humbucker in the neck position. The bridge.. I attempted a Lil'59 Tele Bridge, but it REALLY didn't pair well with the neck. I currently have a Dimarzio Hot T bridge, which is.. Ok. But I'm still looking for a better match for the Mini Humbucker..

When I emailed Seymour Duncan, they referred me to the Custom Shop and a Tele sized Pearly Gates. Being as it is a custom order I thought I'd inquire here first.

I've searched the forums but haven't found an answer.

Thanks for any help.

i have an antiquity II firebird neck pup in my black tele and pair it with a 7.5k a5 tele bridge pup i wound, they are a great match. if i was in your shoes, id look at the jd and the tapped hot tele. are you running 250k pots?

I'd actually go for the Jerry Donahue. It mixes well with minis as well as full size humbuckers.

I had the install done for me, and I believe they used 500k pots, based on "humbucker" traits. The original thought was the lil 59 bridge, and push pull for splitting.. When the 59 flopped we threw in the dimarzio and reverted to not push pull.. But I believe they are 500k still.

Re: Tele Bridge to Match Antiquity II Mini Humbucker Neck?

My Tele has a Gibson mini-hum in the neck (which should be sorta, kinda, like your neck pup) and for a while I had a Lil 59 in the bridge. I pretty much liked the neck better, all the time, so I replaced it with a DiM "Tone Zone" for Tele. I don't want any "twang", just "rock tones", the 59 seemed more ...vintage-y, if that makes sense and the TZ is more gain-y, good distortion sound. Oh, and I put a split on it, in case I want less output. The neck and split bridge together sounds GREAT for rhythm playing.

Re: Tele Bridge to Match Antiquity II Mini Humbucker Neck?

I'm building a Tele this fall that'll have a FB pickup in the neck... I'm expecting that to be a great combination. Honestly I think you are thinking backwards. The Tele bridge pickup sound is the whole damn reason you buy a Tele. Get that, and then find a good match for the neck.

Re: Tele Bridge to Match Antiquity II Mini Humbucker Neck?

I have a Duncan mini paired with a hot Area T in one of my thinlines, they sound pretty good together. I would be looking at the JD or 5-2 for a better match from Duncan.

Re: Tele Bridge to Match Antiquity II Mini Humbucker Neck?

Good Day..
Just checking back to see if there are any more suggestions..
And yes, the Hot T and Mini Hum sound ok together.. But.
Well, a friend tried it the other day and described my issue as.
"They are good independently, but you want more bass/mid in the Bridge to match the neck"

So, That leads me in that direction.. But I still want hum cancelling.

Oh what fun, huh?

Re: Tele Bridge to Match Antiquity II Mini Humbucker Neck?

I do think the Custom Shop Pearly Gates would be an awesome fit; however, have you tried just a simple 50's Broadcaster pickup such as the STL-1?

Re: Tele Bridge to Match Antiquity II Mini Humbucker Neck?

Hello All,
I don't know if anyone still looks at this post.. BUT the quest continues.. I've tried several more bridge pickups, and I'm ready to give up and chuck it all.
Last pickup tried was a Rio Grande Grease Gunner, and it doesn't match the Antiquity II mini hum at all.

So, I'm back
Put it to a vote, being as I can't find one.. Only Criteria - Tele Size Bridge pickup, Noiseless or Humbucking, and I'll repeat the neck is 6.4K so the bridge may need to match.

It really shouldn't be this hard, and need to cost me each time to buy another pickup each time just to find out if it'll work.

Yes, I'm very disappointed with the whole project.

Re: Tele Bridge to Match Antiquity II Mini Humbucker Neck?

Well, you've spent plenty of money on pickups, so I'd still suggest you contacting the Custom Shop and describing the issues you are having. They will make the right pickup for you.

Morning,
I did that 2 years ago and as I said before.
But..
Ok, I'll try again and see if they have any better options this time.

Re: Tele Bridge to Match Antiquity II Mini Humbucker Neck?

what dont you like about the ones youve tried?

Basically, the EQ curve of the tone.
It's difficult to explain but, where the mini hum sounds audibly is like a nice warm flat line (i know it's not but for sale of example I'll call it flat), the bridges I've tried.. Well, the last one adds a bump on the flat line to give some boost to a low end. If that makes sense.
The output, audio wise, too is much hotter
if I change all amp settings I can make the bridge sound ok.. But then that changes the neck.

What I'd really like is, as in my strat, the pickups are virtually the same so the only real audible changes are from the position change. Yes, you might raise height for more umph.. But it's more natural..

The sound I get with the bridges has more of a nasal hump in the tone.

Being as it's all personal opinion, it's difficult to express in writing, so I hope what I've written expresses my intent. It's subjective.. But I hope it helps

Re: Tele Bridge to Match Antiquity II Mini Humbucker Neck?

did you try the cs pg? id think the gilly might be a good fit. i dont worry about noiseless all that much so usually just use single coils in my tele bridges
