Tele build is underway

Re: Tele build is underway

Man, that thing is gonna look sweet! Thanks for keeping us up to date with photos. I always get the itch to do builds when I see builds like this, but since I tend to play set-neck, hollowbodies, I don't think I'll be doing it anytime soon.

Nice. That should come out looking real good. That bridge is nuts. I hope it contributes positively to the sound.

I've never tried a 2TEK so I'm taking a blind shot with it, but I've heard some amazing things about them both online and from friends who have used them. Supposedly they add a ton of clarity and sustain, and lots of people LOVE them in Thorn guitars made of black limba. So, we'll see.

Here's the body with one coat of oil. The color should stay pretty much the same, but it will get more and more shiny like the neck.

Alright, one more photo of the oiling process. Here's the face with two coats on:

Finish it already..the suspense is killing me. A word to the wise- these types of guitars generally have amazing tone, but not traditional (Tele) tone by any means. You probably know that. Not that if you coil split you won't get Twang, casue you most certinley can, just not the kind of "Nashville" twang.
Also, after you play it, let us know if that nice fingerboard makes your fingers any more Limba.

I definitely realize it won't sound much like a tele, but I already have a vintage-style tele :D. I'm hoping this will be a little bit LP Special with more spank from the longer scale. Or as Fender called their version of this, a "Tele Jr."

It's looking like this won't take as many coats as I expected. I've got five on it, and it's looking great. I might stop around eight or ten. I did a mock up last night to get an idea of the final product, and I'm very pleased with the look.

I'm not sold on the amp knobs though, I have some Jaguar-style knobs on the way that I think I'll wind up using:

Re: Tele build is underway

I'm interested to hear your take on how the 2tek bridge feels and sounds.

Re: Tele build is underway

That is looking fantastic! I've been thinking about a similar tele for years, using the same wood but a humbucker in the neck with a tele brige pickup. Seeing yours I might have to get off my lazy ass and get to it. Really curious how the 2tek bridge works out for you, keep us posted.
