Tele GAS!!!!

Re: Tele GAS!!!!

MikeS: exactly, what guitar is that in your avatar? Is it yours, or just one of your GAS-objects? I've been lurking around on this board for a long time, and frequently when I see you posting, I think that particular Tele is definitely one of the most pretty ones I've seen.

Re: Tele GAS!!!!

this is one of my favorite teles...so clean and simple! i had to pass on it due to the body being ash (i like alder) but man it still looks killer IMO

I must say that it tickles me that a guy with your forum handle is so interested in a Tele.

Re: Tele GAS!!!!

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one (I don't know how. :smack:). Nicest "flame" maple neck I've ever seen. :D

Although the other seems a bit more like him - sans pickguard and all.

It’s my Fender MIM 50s RI. Picture is a bit washed, but it’s a white-blonde with a tortoise shell guard, brass saddles, and a QP tapped set.

Re: Tele GAS!!!!

Thanks. If I ever get me a Tele, that must be something in that vein.

For some reason, that thing screams BRIGHT to me...

I thought that at first, too, but I think the chambered design might help balance out the tone a little. It'd still be fairly bright, but should be a little warmer than if it didn't have the chambers. At the price tag and its limited availability I haven't got my paws on one for a test drive, so your guess is as good as mine in terms of tone. I'm not even familiar enough with Merle Haggard to make an educated guess.

My version would copy it only on an aesthetic level. IMO part of what makes a tele is the bolt-on maple neck. But, that project isn't happening any time soon.

That's pretty sick, reminds me of Die's guitars from Dir en grey.

The whole body is one giant slab of quilted maple o__O I guess that justifies the 600k yen price. The edwards one (like 1k dollars) has quilted maple top and alder back.

Re: Tele GAS!!!!

When I got my first Tele around 20 years ago... :eek13:

The guy was selling it because he had a beautiful Olympic White early 60's model with a Bigsby- and the lining of the case was this beautiful blue- like the inside of my old Rick case, but oh so much more plush...

Makes ya sound old, doesn't it? :laugh2: Better be careful it's makin' me feel that way too. :6:

Re: Tele GAS!!!!

Just to stir the fire. Everyone has to have a tele.

It's another un-written law! Seriously, there's nothing that will ever replace the telecaster.

And no, those weird strat wana-be ones aren't what I'd consider a telecaster.

Re: Tele GAS!!!!

This is my favorite tele, despite the many great ones out there.

I think a Tele is permitted to have a middle pickup and be wired like a strat, but a Tele must have a Tele bridge plate and a pickguard. Otherwise, it ain't a tele. It also has to have a bolt-on maple neck and a body of either alder or swamp ash. This is all IMO, of course.

Re: Tele GAS!!!!

Now that's where I differ. I hate the tele's shield. I'd love somthing that would follow the shape of the body, like those hb equiped tele's or the thinlines do but in a way that you could have the knobs arranged like a strat. That would be pretty sick.

But I agree with you on one thing. It has to have the bridge plate. Haven't tested that many Teles to disagree with you on the woods but I'd love to try out one made out of mahogany with a maple/rosewood neck and a p90 in the neck.

That's what I meant.

I'm going to be getting rid of the 6 saddle bridge and going for a 6 saddle barrel bridge or 3 barrel one here soon. I just can't stand looking at those ugly 6 saddle bridges.
