Tele grounding issues

I finally rewired my tele with the wiring below. (Except where it says neck tapped I actually put middle tapped)

I have a lot of hum in position 1 (unplayable) and on 3. It feels like a grounding issue not just hum since when I touch the knobs etc it reacts. I don't get how there is no grounding issue in the other positions. The neck pickup is a Fender CS 54 Strat pickup.

It's an American STD that has screws on the conductive paint in two spots and those are connected to the pots instead of the usual wire running from the bridge.

Any ideas of what could be wrong in the design or grounding before I try to run a cable from the bridge? I don't have pics.

Re: Tele grounding issues

It could be a mistake in your wiring but make sure ALL your components are grounded with a wire including the mini toggle and for sure utilize your bridge as a chassis ground in addition to the body - solder a ground wire to the bridge and shield your pickguard.

Thanks Clint. I'll do a full pass like you suggest.

I believe that the bridge is grounded to the plate of the bridge pickup and that to the pickup ground and from there to the switch. Given that the bridge ground goes to the switch instead of the pot maybe that means that when the bridge pickup is not engaged the bridge is not grounded. I didn't install the bridge so I'm not sure.

To be precise, the bad hum on the first position only happens when I touch the strings. I'm used to failing the opposite way but this is a new one for me [emoji4]

Re: Tele grounding issues

You're welcome. As long as everything somehow runs to the main ground out the jack .

Fixed. The bridge was wired as I expected. I just had to unsolder that and do normal bridge grounding.
