C'mon Butch, you know you got an extra tele or two laying around.... ;)

Hah!! I wish.... I see that you're awaiting the arrival of a new Hwy 1 Texas Tele. Very nice choice. :bigok: What finish?

Re: Tele Gurus.... help me pick a Tele!

well i didn't build the tele that is on it's way but i had someone else do it for me. Blueline in building mine with a real fender neck and the lightest ash body he could make. and i found all the parts for the tele that i wanted and he is putting them on. Same as i would have done with a custom shop fender but in my opinion much better and much cheaper. My new guitar will say fender on the headstock but it will be much better than anything fender is making right now. So i say either build it or have someone else build it for you. You can always get warmoth or usa custom to make the neck and body just the way you want it.

Another vote for the Hwy1 tele. Almost perfect for what you want. If they made one with a chunkier neck, I'd get one in a heartbeat.

Re: Tele Gurus.... help me pick a Tele!

OK, here it is, my homemade Tele. This was the first guitar I ever attempted to build, and it turned out great...so much so that I'm in the middle of another right now. If you look closely you can probably see (in addition to reflections of me) some Photoshop artifacts - the light color of the pearloid pickguard was playing havock with the camera's sensor, making everything else really dark and the finish look black, so I had to fix it in Photoshop, but these pictures are a true representation of how the guitar looks in person.

Sorry, couldn't figure out how to include the pics in the post!

I went Honey Blonde. Very partial to that color. But, like I said, I'm figuring it'll be a 50/50 shot as to whether it stays or not.

That's a really nice looking Tele. Love the color. It still manages to look classic but cool at the same time.

Scott....I love that Honey Blond finish on the Hwy 1's. That's what I've got on my Hwy 1 Strat. Nice choice.

Re: Tele Gurus.... help me pick a Tele!

I'm weighing up Tele options too at the moment. My only reservation with the Highway 1s is how durable that finish would be. How resilient is it, compared with a regular Fender finish?

Re: Tele Gurus.... help me pick a Tele!

The idea behind the Hwy 1 finish is that it's meant to be thin. It will wear quickly. Someone here had a honey blonde tele for sale recently (hwy1) that was aged nicely after only two years of heavy playing. It looked great and I'm kicking myself for not snatching it up when I had the chance!

I am a bit bummed to find out that even though I paid a bit more for this Texas version it will ship in a gig bag. That blows. But it had the 52 Reissue one-piece tinted neck in 12" radius that I wanted. I'm assuming the edges will be rolled off nicely. I decided to pay a bit more to get that neck. Already had the 3 barrel brass bridge and some decent pups (like that'll last me any time at all).

Now, if it doesn't kick butt, I'll send it back and go for a used American Tele off fleabay.

Thanks Scott. Good point about the ageing. I hear they resonate better too.

When I first looked at the specs I thought the Texas Tele looked ideal for me. I haven't found any stores near me that stock those currently, but there are regular Highway 1s around. Hoping to play a few over the next few days. Maybe I'll just order a Texas version.

Must be nice to have guitars named after your state. I'm still awaiting the Hampshire Telecaster. It's awfully polite. :smack:
