tele: hot vs. a2pro-convince me

i'm in the market for a new tele bridge pickup, and i'm having trouble deciding between the a2pro and hot.

i'm putting it in a guitar with an old ('86) a2pro humbucker in the neck, so the a2pro is a fairly obvious match, but after listening to the sound clips for both pickups, i really can't decide on which one i like better.

any comments/advice?

I did not like the A2P Tele pickups that I heard in a Fender Lite Ash Tele I played. They had pretty low output, so I have doubts about their ability to keep up with a HB (even a lower powered one). I just put an STL-2 Hot Tele lead in my Tele HS, which has a pretty hot Atomic II HB at the neck (A2 mag, 7.8K ohms). It sounds nice and fat and keeps up pretty well with the HB. If you want to stick with alnico 2, then the Jerry Donahue Tele lead is well worth considering. It should keep up with a lower power HB (goes well with a Phat Cat neck) and sounds very nice.

I think the A2Pro Tele pickups could be brighter. I like the Antiquity and Jerry Donahue more, though the JD could be a tad brighter too. I use one in an alder Tele that's naturally a little brighter than my swamp ash Teles...sounds great!

I love the Tele Hot too, but I use the tapped version so I can get both vintage output and hot output. That's the way I'd go with if you want the Tele Hot pickup.

ok, i've narrowed it down between the two pickups i mentioned from the soundclips as well as the price (i don't have a whole lot of scratch to spend).

the jerry donahue and tapped hot are currently out of my range. i appreciate the suggestions though.

edit: unless, of course, someone has a used jd or tapped hot they want to sell.

from the soundclips, i really like the a2pro clean better, but i like the hot's dirty sound better. hmmm....
