tele neck humbucker?

Hi I am building a tele
(swamp ash body, V-shape maple neck & fingerboard, butterscotch blonde nitro) I would like to use a Duncan broadcaster bridge pup and a nickel covered neck humbucker. Is a pearly gates neck a good choice? I mean in the sense of volume balance with the bridge pickup.
I also considered the 59 which is available with covers, but they have long legs, and I don't want to rout too deep round the neck area.
I also considered using the '59 neck, as it is available with a cover, but it's legs are longer, and I don't want to rout deep holes in the neck area. Also considered the Seth Lover Neck, but as it is unpotted I fear for squeel.

As the Pearly Gates pups are not sold with nickel covers, should I buy a separate cover and repot the pickup myself? (I have some previous experience).
If so, where can I get a nickel silver cover that fits?
Any feedback would be welcome!

i think a pgn would be a good match. as for the cover duncan dealers can get you a cover that will fit

Re: tele neck humbucker?

BTW you can order a 59 or most any humbucker they make with short legs.

I just built one, alder body, the neck is Stewart MCDonald, maple/ebony figerboard, 12"radius which I prefer , Gotoh tuners, I put SD Seth Lover on the neck position, fabulous pick up, you can not go wrong with Jazz humbucker as well. Bridge pick up is STL52-1 , Neshville model.

I made a small chamber with the F hole so I can get more volume and I aloso like jazzy tone, the guitar is quite light, instead od those plastic crapy covers I used in this case lacewood with fabulous grains.

Good luck with your Tele!

Re: tele neck humbucker?

Congratulations, nice Guitar Klika!

I know the Jazz Model very well, as it's one of my favourite neck buckers.
This time I want it to sound a little more raw and a little warmer. I go for the pearly Gates neck, because it seems very similar in tone & output to the Seth Lover neck, but is short legged and potted.
I can understand your choice of pickup though.
Does The Seth Lover you use have problems with feedback in high gain situations?

All the best

Thanks. Well, I haven`t tested it in high gain situation so I can not tell you much about potentional feedback problems. I finished the guitar a couple of weeks ago, just pluged it in a friends apm couple of times. I am in searsh of a nice Fender tube amp and I`ll probably odrer modified TS 808 to the original specs from AnalogMan , that would be killing combination, nice Tele + original TS 808 + some Twin Verb or Vibrolux, maybe Bassman ...we`ll see.

I already have a plan of building onother one, this time I`ll try to experiment , swamp ash or mahogany with 1/4" ebony on top, plus 2 humbuckers, something like thinline, probably with F hole and a small chamber ......

Thisi is my acoustic baby that I made just before Tele, a guitar that i would never swap with any Martin up to 28 model, what a tone, beauful cocobolo (african rosewood) back and sides, similar in grain and colour with brazilian rosewood. mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard, heringbone rosete and purfling, just an awesome guitar, although my first one .

Cheers!

Enjoy building your guitar as I did!

Re: tele neck humbucker?

Nice guitar! I did a Tele with mahogany body and one piece maple neck some years ago. Duncan Broadcaster and a paf clone in the neck. i had problems volumewise to match both. I ended up wiring the broadcaster direct to the switch without volume pot and swapping in a Phat Cat clone called Domino by Rockinger/Duesenberg. Great match with the Broadcaster now.

Re: tele neck humbucker?

Also some very nice work Klika! Although I mainly build electrics, I am thinking of starting on two classical guitars soon. One spruce/bloodwood, One spruce/Palo Escrito.
But that's got nothing to do with pickups or this forum...Maybe I'll get a digital camera and document the building on some other forum, who knows?
Thank you all for advice on the tele neck humbucker,
Kind Regards, Roosje
