Thank you! Regarding this, does it affect the sound of the pickup if I wire it the other way, swapping hot for ground that is.

Do anybody know how this works? My gut feeling is that it wouldn't matter. But I'm no technichian…

Most welcome! And like what Dave said, depends on pickups and preference.

I would just wire it up normally–noting what each color means for each brand.

Mincer, I think you got the question wrong. The pickup IS out of phase. I love that in humbuckers, in single coils not so much. Since Tonerider and Duncans have different wiring techniques I have to wire one of them backwards (switching hot for ground) to get them NOT to be out of phase. The question is if it affects the pickup in it's single use function (ie toggle switch forward, just the neck pickup) or doesn't affect the tone at all?
