Re: Tele or Les Paul? (No Rob Option)

My answer is the same as last time: Snakeskin Baretta :D

Failing that, a Les Paul, even if I like the properties of a tele neck more.

Re: Tele or Les Paul? (No Rob Option)

I could not, in good conscious, vote on this because the correct answer is "yes - you should get a les paul AND a tele". That is the only acceptable answer. I assume this was a trick question... what did I win for getting the answer right?

Re: Tele or Les Paul? (No Rob Option)

Man, I am so happy we are a group of very diverse tastes here.

Re: Tele or Les Paul? (No Rob Option)

I voted LP mainly because the longer 25.5" scale of a Tele is a strain/encumherment o me when needing to do quick-and-tight power chord position shifts in the lower fret, lower strings.

I also prefer the tone of an LP's mahogany body wood vs the Ash or Alder of a Tele.

I'd also rather have the possibility for more tonal options that an LP's two humbuckers provide for (since they can be split, paralleled, etc) vs the 1 or more singlecoils of a Tele.

I do NOT like the typical weight of an LP but i baked in an assumption that i could handpick an LP that weighed less than average.

No modding? LP for sure, because my favorite music to play, by far, is rawk!

That said, I actually find a Tele more comfortable to play, and it does everything else that I play quite well.

I have both.

Re: Tele or Les Paul? (No Rob Option)

Les Paul all the way. I wanted one from the moment I first saw one. I also find the balance and the shorter scale to be the more comfortable to me. Mine is my go-to guitar and does everything I need it to do. Plus I just cannot stand the way Tele's look...

Can you get a Tele with a shorter scale and two humbuckers?
Made of mahogany?

Yes you can

Rondo Music has one on and off all the time

Can you get it with a set neck? Maybe a carved maple top? Tune o'matic bridge? Shaped a little more LP like?
Wait.... lol. :scratchch
At what point does it stop being a Tele and start becoming something else?

Re: Tele or Les Paul? (No Rob Option)

Some of these posts got me thinking of how when they first came out, the only difference between a Les Paul and a Tele was the feel and the master/dedicated controls. The best vintage Teles sounded like LPs and the best vintage LPs sounded like Teles.

Re: Tele or Les Paul? (No Rob Option)

As much as I love my Les Paul and have played it exclusively for over 20 years; I would surprisingly choose my Tele. It can do everything my LP does plus it’s own thing and it’s ridiculously durable.

Well, THAT'S not true at all.

Exactly. Too much grey and no black and white. So, there is no "Tele" perse. And the main difference between a Tele and a LP is the appearance.

Re: Tele or Les Paul? (No Rob Option)

Well, except that it is.

If you truly believe that, then I have to ask you...have you ever seen a Tele or a LP (let alone played them)?

How do you expect anyone to ever take you seriously (and I know that you have given some excellent advice/suggestions on this forum before) if you make such an inaccurate all inclusive or exclusive statement?

A Les Paul for me. Ive played a few nice telecasters but Ive always found them to be way too bright
