Tele, perfect modern/emo guitar?

Re: Tele, perfect modern/emo guitar?

I saw a guy in a Emo band playing a gibson melody maker a while back. I don't know what he was doing to it, but it made me want to go cry alone in my room.

Re: Tele, perfect modern/emo guitar?

lol ... ever seen a jazz player with a BC Rich? There's a reason for that.

Actually I have. The BC Rich NJ series come with really bassy stock pickups that work pretty decently for jazz...the guy i saw had a nice American Bich tho.

I used to go see an all-Mormon death metal band when I lived in Salt Lake City. They were called SLAUGHTERMETALDEATH-HOUSE and their guitarist used a thinline Telecaster with single-coils.

You can play any style on any guitar.

Re: Tele, perfect modern/emo guitar?

I honestly think teles are anything you want them to be, all depending on what pups you have in them...they can be country, emo, punk, classic rock...hell, they can even be metal...

Re: Tele, perfect modern/emo guitar?

I'm sure jazz guys don't use BC Riches more for image reasons than anything musical.

Re: Tele, perfect modern/emo guitar?

ermm....As I said in the Glastonbury thread, everyone in the "hot" bands seem to play tele's 335's and lp's. I forgot Sg's though...

think of like neck radiuses, 21/22/24 frets, scale lengths, neck widths, neck back profiles, trem capabilities..

you can play any style on any guitar - but if you have your favourites you might as well make it easy on yourself ;)

Exactly. SG's, Tele's, Strats, LP's, whatever, they're all GOOD guitars...it's just a matter of preference...I will agree that nothing has that heavy twang sound that Tele provides, but you can use that tone for all styles of music.

Leftover Crack for example...their albums go from ska and punk to extreme black metal sometimes in the same song...one guitarist plays a Tele, the other a Gretsch with a Tele bridge pickup. Sounds good, rocks hard, and is unique...:werd:

Re: Tele, perfect modern/emo guitar?

I hope you guys are wrong. Cause in the picture I have of EMO, its a tele or LP Junior--maybe something esle.. A Les paul Custom isnt emo, nor is an SG i dont thin-primarialy because sg is so hard rock how can it be identified as emo also??. I respect emo. But not if it can be played by any guitar like some guys say.

Re: Tele, perfect modern/emo guitar?

A lot of emo music involves a lot of fast riffs and intense screaming, a la hard rock. i'd say the majority of the emo bands i've seen live have used SG's and Les Pauls actually...

it's the SG for me.. shame a lot of the guys i've seen playing emo reckon sounding like a sharp, solid-state, tinny mess is 'part of their art'...

They're a good band but I would hardly label them as "Emo." They have more of a POP PUNK type sound.

Re: Tele, perfect modern/emo guitar?

You typically see teles used in the more emo/pop and emo/indie type of stuff (stuff where lots of effects are used and lighter overdrive is used). For the harder emo-ish type stuff (you know, the stuff where it almost blends some metal in with it) - it's usually always SGs or Les Pauls.

Thursday is "rock", not emo.

Thats what I'm sayin, you can hit a 335 tone decent with a tele if you drop the tone and volume a bit, at least you can in mine. All these "Indie, Scene" bands are grabbing them up.

Re: Tele, perfect modern/emo guitar?

The funny thing about emo is that it is known to be emotional rock but compared to real rockers there is no emotion just REALLY bad acting trying to be all sad and angry. Now blues thats a genre that shows emotion!

Re: Tele, perfect modern/emo guitar?

Ha!! I will give those emo's something to cry about!! When there parents stop funding there bad music, bad tone, hopefully they will stop pretending to want to die!

Mormon-core? JOSEPH SMITH JR. RARRRRRRGHHH!! :eyecrazy:

Re: Tele, perfect modern/emo guitar?

Emo Sucks!!!

Maybe if we start referring to it as if it happened already maybe we can convince everyone that it's over and done with and we will never have to hear it again.
