Re: Tele pickup in strat
I'm going to be doing the opposite, which is to say that I'll be putting a Tele bridge in a Strat whenever I get around to buying a second Strat. I have a cover custom-cut for a Tele bridge to fit in it, just need a Strat to go with it.
But to your point, I haven't tried a Tele rhythm in a Strat, but even so, I do know that a lot depends on how hot or cool the Tele rhythm you have is wound. Tele rhythms are smaller than Strat pu's so you can't get nearly as much wire on them, so they almost always wind them with #43 wire, and most of the time use Alnico 5 rods.
Anyway, my recommendation is to not use a Tele rhythm under 7.5k for the neck position on a Strat, and preferably around 8k or even a little hotter, unless you like a really weak-sounding neck pu.
The other thing to consider is that the Tele rhythm also has a metal cover that, depending on what it's made of, will dampen the output and treble a bit, and make it sound dull and weak compared to your Strat bridge and middle, which have plastic covers. But if the Tele rhythm is a Duncan, you're probably okay there because Duncan uses good covers that are very tonally transparent. (If not, Guitar Jones sells excellent Tele rhythm covers.)
And last but not least, the Tele rhythm isn't quite as long as a Strat pu so you may have a little trouble mounting it in the Strat pickguard.
