Tele PU problem

Just installed new pups in my hwy 1 tele (rosewood). JD in the bridge and APTR-1. I am not thrilled with the combination so far. The JD has noticably more hum than the APTR-1 and this presents a problem when switching between them. Also, it seems that along with the increase in noise comes a decrease in output. I am happy with the sound of the APTR-1. Is this common? Any suggestions? I play through a Marshall 50 watt head and 2x12 set up/Fender blues junior.

Do you have the grounding wire firmly under the baseplate. I didn't have any problems when I took out my Fender pups. You might want to check to make sure your control plate is grounded well.
