Tele sound froman axis

Hi I new hear, and I need some help,
I have an MM Axis (basswood/maple top), and I would like to change the original bridge humbucker.
I would like to get a nice telecaster sound with the new hum (splited) and a very agressive lead/rythm sound in humbucker mode.
I know it is not easy but hopefully somebody will have a good idea.

Closest to a tele single will be the Rio Grande Muy Grande in the bridge. Pair it up with the Tallboy in the neck and you'll have a great Axis for country. If you have a thick sounding amp or OD pedal, it will also do hard rock sounds nicely, but it will be brighter and more steely than a standard 'bucker.

If you dig single coils, those are the 'buckers for you. :burnout:

Welcome to the forum....I use a DiMarzio Fred in the bridge positin of my guitar. It's an Axis-type guitar with a maple neck and basswood body. The Fred dos do some twanging....

Doesn't DiMarzio now make an "Eric Johnson" humbucker that is so trebly-yet-clear, that it's almost singlecoil-ish? I think it's barely 7k or something. Maybe that would be similar to what you're looking for.

I'm not sure I have any good ideas!

Doesn't DiMarzio now make an "Eric Johnson" humbucker that is so trebly-yet-clear, that it's almost singlecoil-ish? I think it's barely 7k or something. Maybe that would be similar to what you're looking for.

The Eric Johnson pickup was voiced to sound like a Filtertron. Not quite single coil, but jangly....

thanks for the answers.

I heard somewhere that splited pearly gates is very telecasterish, and it has very nice rock tone (ala ZZ Top) in humbuckerr mode.

What do you think about it?

You'll want a HOT bucker to split to a tele sound - teles are hot singles. I like the Muy Grande idea. Or, rig up a twangbanger with another coil on a bucker mounting plate and "roll your own humbucker".

I think a JB split or in parallel has a very Tele like tone.

Its Seymours turn.

Maybe I'll try both of them in it.
First PG (than JB) because I love ZZ top sound also. Of course it wont be the same sound in a basswood axis, but I give it a chance...

In that case, I agree with the JB - that works well split. The Distortion should, too, but I have no direct experience splitting that one.

The Distortion is a bit too fizzy in the highs. The JB might work. The PG is my all time favorite humbucker, but it might be a bit too low output for what you want.
