Tele to Mod...

What's everybody's thoughts on Tele MIM Standards? They play pretty well once you drop some Duncans in em, or is it better to go with a higher line? I'm thinking I may just buy the parts and put it together slowly. Like, maybe a used tele neck and finish my own Warmoth body in solid white. Thoughts?

Re: Tele to Mod...

they're pretty good for the money

like anything else you get what you pay for, so it all depends on how dedicated you are to your tone

my advice is go play a lot of teles, all kinds, and get the one you like

Re: Tele to Mod...

Check out the MIJ Fernandes. I think it may be a better player than my Gibson even though it cost me about 1/20th as much. :laugh2:

Re: Tele to Mod...

I have a mim telecaster...and it's an early model (1994) and doesn't have through body stringing...it's just through bridge (not noticing any tone difference between the two compared to my friend's american standard) ... I put texas special tele pickups in there and hte thing screams! I just hate that it's taken a back seat to my american standard strat...it was my main axe for years until I got my strat last fall.....I say go for it...especially some of the new ones are really nice

Re: Tele to Mod...

find and buy one that feels right, then upgrade the parts as need be ... or build a perfect one from scratch if you have the cash and/or skills ... i have neither, so i bought a tokai 52ri clone and upgraded all the parts .. killer tone for $450 and i dont have to worry as much about taking it to a bar

the 50's MIMs felt great in my hand

cheers
