Tele wiring question.

Yeah, yeah, I know . . . its me. :laugh2:

For those of you have "traditional" Tele's, that is, two singles, and who use the "series" wiring option . . . how important do you find that sound to be? Do you consider it essential?

I'm trying to decide about which switch to buy for a Tele project.
Thanks all.

Re: Tele wiring question.

you know me, the more options the better :D ... my experience with my tele 4 way is that it is just another shade of grey to play with ... it didnt give me anything that i couldnt already get with the volume and tone knobs, but it is a faster way to get to 'that' shade ... i like that it is a bit louder (use it for a solo break with the band) and i find it cuts nicely without being ice-picky

was easy to wire especially 'cus the neck pup cover (vintage stack for tele - rhythm) already had it's own ground

good luck

Re: Tele wiring question.

Thanks t4d. Thats probably all the "push" I need. I think I'm going to convert my Genny over to a more conventional Tele configuration, at least temporarily, and wasn't sure if I should mess with that option.

I guess I'm going to go with the JD (b)/AII Pro (n) for now. That dang "Ultimate Tele" thread has me GAS'ing. ;)

Re: Tele wiring question.

i talked to a guy in a shop once who told me of his tele ... he had it wired so that the 3 way selected resistors into the tone control circuit .. one position was the equivalent of the tone control wide open, and the other two were two of his 'favorite' settings measured on a pot with an ohmmeter ... he had a traditional volume knob and a blender pot that allowed him to combine the pups (parallel, i think)... all the way clockwise was bridge-only, middle (detented) was 50-50, and full counterclockwise was neck only

really wish i couldve played it .. sounded like a cool setup .... come to think of it, i think the volume knob might've been push pull to control the tapped bridge pup

cool, huh?

Re: Tele wiring question.

That does sound interesting. I'm going to be doing something a bit unique with my wiring also. I just need to wire it up and try it, before I post it. If it goes as planned, it should be cool - and applicable to various pickup configurations.

Stay tuna-ed. ;)
