tele + (???) = zeppelin

I'm looking for some pickups for an ash tele with maple neck that will get me in zeppelin land. I know a traditional early tele pickup was probably originally used but I'm not a studio genius and I need some pups that will cover a broader range of zep not just zep I. A tall order probably better filled by my les paul but I'm giving it a go anyhow. I figure a few pedals can thicken things up a bit for the later sounds.

Umm honestly just roll down your tone knob. I have a very twangy stock bridge PU in my Tele and Just rolling down the town takes me into PAF land. It doesn't sound like a PAF dont get me wrong but it gets you there. The tone knob does more than anything and I'm not a guy who messes with his knobs constantly on stage and swears by doing so. If I'm messing with my knobs its just because I'm too lazy to walk over to my footswitch to hit the clean channel, to silence my guitar, or because it makes a HUGE difference in tone. I only use my tone knob on my Tele and it's not because it makes a subtle difference that everyone can barely hear.

The Dimarzio Area Hot T might do the trick. It sounds a lot like a Tele but it has less twang and snap. This might be because of the A2 mags in it but I think the wind was meant to be like that as well. Its supposed to have a PAF vibe to it. I've never actually used it but I think it is what I'm going to get for my Tele. It's stacked though I dont know if that's your thing or not. It's a pickup I've really looked into so that's why I'm referencing it. I guess the Quarter Pound is very P90ish and fat so that might help get you where you're going but it hums.

Another thing to note is look at EMG's on board EQ accessories for guitars. I know they have this presence knob which allows you to fatten up your coils to sound almost like a full humbucker. It adds mids and rolls off the highs as you dial it in more. I think it's called the Strat Presence Control or something like that. Could be an option as well.

Bareknuckle Pickups Yardbird PUs, Coloursound Tone Bender fuzz pedal, blah, blah.

Re: tele + (???) = zeppelin

Try a set of STR 7 STL-2's. They're a little hotter than vinatge Tele's but still keep the sound. Also, + 1 on using your tone knob.

And an old Supro Amp and a Tonebender pedal...Zeppelin 1..Later it's all about a Les Paul into a NMV Marshall..

Re: tele + (???) = zeppelin

I use quarter pounder (no tapped version) - p-rails combo on my blonde tele as non traditional set up (some heavy stuffs). Never try it for Zep though ... :smack:
