Telecaster 3-saddle compensated bridge?

These seem to be popular, expensive, and compromise the ability for proper intonation. What's the appeal? What am I missing?

Tradition is a big thing in Tele culture. Some insist it is part of the classic sound.

My 3-saddle has never had any noticeable intonation problems when playing. It sounds 'right' all the time. I've had 6-saddle where everything was 'perfect' but it didn't make the guitar sound better or play more in tune, in any way that made the resulting music 'better'. The material seems to be more important to me than the compensation. Brass just makes that Tele sound.

The sole reason they're compensated is for proper intonation. All my vintage style ashtray bridges are this model:

Expensive? No, they're usually less than $30 and are fantastic. As for brass saddles having that sound, I have Telecasters with plated brass bridges and six steel saddles and there is not much tone difference.

They look cooler. Some people try to justify it by saying it sounds better, but that might just be them hearing with their eyes. Any difference in sound I got from them was small enough that it could easily just be the sound of a new pair of strings.

I don't think it looks very cool, but to me a Tele doesn't do anything for me.

I just acquired a Duncan Designed TE-101 set. I gotta put 'em into something. It's a disease.

I got to hear them first. They sound amazing. Typical Tele tone, but smoother, and warmer. No ice-pick.

i like the look of three brass saddles, and with modern compensated saddles the intonation is decent to spot on.

Yep, my Teles with the Wilkinson compensated brass saddles are just as intonated as the Teles with 6 steel saddles or my PRS.

I get it, but there is still too much ergonomically wrong to me in traditional Teles.

That's cool. But Brad Paisley just makes it look right. I think it's the hat.

So does Steve Morse, or he did, back in the Dregs days. I love what people do on Teles, but I can't make them work for me without modifications.

Telecasters are the Chuck Taylors of the guitar world. They existed before specialization, but by modern standards are somewhat lacking in sophistication. The only reason they hang around in the modern era is mojo. For the less perceptive of you, I am referring to the shoe and not the basketball player.
