Telecaster bridge pickup in a Strat.Does it reall need the whole bridge piece?

I was listening some demos of the Twang Banger Strat (APST-1) and I like this idea of a tele bridge in a strat, this particular model has the shape of a strat pickup so it can fit into the strat single coil routing and pickguard and it sounds pretty good to me even with the Stratocaster bridge. SO I was thinking, maybe I can try and route a Strat to fit any Tele bridge pickup while keeping the Strat bridge, but how much does the Tele bridge really add to the classic Telecaster bridge tone?

I’ve seen just the pickup installed in a custom pickguard. Make sure you include the steel plate on the bottom of the pickup.

Going from brass to steel on my tele's bridge plate made a big difference in tone. I imagine not having the pickup attached to the bridge plate will have an effect on the sound of a tele pickup.

FWIW, I have a Rio Grande Stelly in a strat. It sounds GREAT, but it doesn't sound like a tele.

Having the pup mounted to the metal bridge plate makes a big difference in getting that Tele tone.
