I just got a new squier classic vibe tele, and i knew before i even got it that i would have to change the bridge pickup. I had a tonrider hot classic bridge pickup laying around and used that one, and while i like it, i'm not 100% happy. Infact i find it to be a bit dark and lacking in the treble frequencies. It's wound at 9,1k , so i like the output even though i think i could do with something in the 8k range, and i like the mids and bass freqs. I like it under gain but less so when clean.
So i've done my homework on the duncan range (i'm an expert on humbuckers and strat single coils but i complete noob on tele pickups) and narrowed it down to these 3 contenders:
-Duncan J. Donnahue
-Duncan Broadcaster
-Duncan STL1
My neeeds are the following: i want something hotter than a vintage tele pickup, with more mids, but without it being dark, keeping a healthy amount of treble and without going into super hot output (i guess something between 7,5-9k is ok). Something similar to my all time favorite strat single coil the SSL5.
Each one of the above has some pro and cons: main problem with the JD is that not many people seem to use it and there's not much info on the web about it. The Broadcaster seems like a nice choice but i it seems lots of people find it a bit dark. The STL-1 seems a bit problematic as it it more in the range of the vintage traditional tele pickups and not on the overwound ones.
Can you please comment on those 3 pickup so i can decide which one i'm gonna marry? :bandit::eek5::lol:
