Telecaster build

I'm putting together a Parts 'Caster with a Lonestar body and Warmouth neck and want to go with 3 pickups, a Little 59 in the bridge, and single coil Duncans at the neck and middle. I'd like to be able to split the bridge pickup but would rather have a switch than a push-pull. I seem to have a real dyslexia when it comes to switches....I just don't seem to grasp them at all. Would like to know how to convert from the push pull to a mini lever switch and haven't been able to find a diagram/schematic. Help!

Thanks in advance, Steve

Re: Telecaster build

how do you want to wire it up? a mini switch and a volume and a 3 way? 1 vol, 1 tone, a 5 way and a mini switch? etc we need more info

Re: Telecaster build

Push-pull pots have a DPDT switch attached to them - all you need is one of those and you can wire it just like the diagram. If you want it to work the same direction as the pot, wire it so the connections that would be nearer the pot are on the down side of the switch.

Re: Telecaster build

Thanks for the replies. I have a Strat I wired some years back with a 3-way switch for the neck and bridge pups. The first pot is the volume for the neck and bridge and the next pot was changed to control the middle pup so all combinations were possible. I'm not that fond of the Fender-style switches and am considering using 3 mini-switches, one for each pup on/off, and a 4th switch to do the coil tap. I'd want one volume and one tone with the tone possibly just on the bridge put as that's the only one I typically change the tone on. I've downloaded some info on switches and will work on it and maybe paste a sketch here to see if it looks like it would work.

Re: Telecaster build

All you need is two SPST switches for the neck and middle pickups. The bridge pickup can be manipulated with one three way switch, and if you get a DPDT on/on/on you can wire it so the full and split options are in whatever position you like.

Re: Telecaster build

I have a drawing I'm looking at on the Duncan site:

http://www.seymourduncan.com/suppor...matics.php?schematic=3s_1v_1t_3on-offswitches

The split thing is giving me a huge headache. As I said before, switches don't seem to register in my brain and I don't have a clue how to fit in the DPDT on/on/on switch as suggested by ParameterMan. Would this give the option of turning the pickup off/pickup on single coil/pickup on dual coil? Would appreciate any clarification! I'm fine with following schematics/soldering/etc. but can't greasp this. Thanks again.

Re: Telecaster build

Well, tell me how you want it to work, and I'll get you a little diagram. My inclination would be to wire it as off/split/full, but I'm pretty sure we can make it work for any arrangement.

Re: Telecaster build

I think I have it figured out but I'm looking at 1 volume, 1 tone (for just the bridge pup) and three on/off switches, one for each pup. I purchased a Little 59 Tele bridge pup and will want it split. I haven't decided on the other two and one/both may be 4 conductor. I definately want to split the Little 59, but if either of the other two end up splittable, I'll use the same switch criteria as on the Little 59.

Re: Telecaster build

If you're still interested in doing this, here's some quick ASCII art demonstrating the DPDT on/on/on wiring.

Code:
Off   |            o  o--> Hot
Split | red+white -o o- black
Full | green -o o
                   |
                 Ground
