Telecaster Control Plates?

Anyone know where I can get a tele control plate with non-standard pot/switch holes? I used to have a tele control plate that Had Three Pot holes, and instead of the fender blade switch, it had a hole for a gibson style toggle. But When I changed pickups I put a standard Tele plate back on the tele, and have since Lost the other plate.
Now I know your probably thinking "why not just go back to where you got the first one and get another?" well I tried that already. The owner of the shoppe (who appears to be 800 years old) Didn't remember haveing ever seen those plates before (he is old after all so he obviously forgot he'de sold it to me in the first place), and Couldn't tell me where to get another. That first one I got out of the "cheap parts bin" they have there, and it wasn't in any packageing or anything, So I don't even know who made it.
So if anyone Knows where I can get something like this, Lemme know. Even if its Just a standard Plate (i.e. fender style blade switch), but with a Third pot hole added. I hate Not haveing individual Tone controls!!! So please lemme know if you know where I can get one of these.
thanks

Re: Telecaster Control Plates?

I tried but could not find anything. The closest I found was a standard control plate with a mini-toggle hole in between the pots. Let me know if you find anything, though!

Yeah, I've been looking for the past week now, and found basically nothing. I haven't even seen any with the minitoggle hole. Its irritateing, cause I KNOW they exist, I used to have one (might still have it some where in all my junk), haha. But Just can't find em. I'll deffinately let ya know if I find anything, although I'm begaining to think I might have to just drill the hole myself, Which I REALLY don't wanna do, cause anytime I drill a hole it comes out triangular, haha. And that would just look goofy.

Re: Telecaster Control Plates?

I've often though Tele control plates should be available with different layouts, or at least blank so you can drill your own. I've never seen them, though.

If you find them, please let us all know.

If not, try appealing to Jay at GuitarFetish - he has the type of product line (and the manufacturing resources) to bring something like that to market.

Haha..I think I've have heard this topic come up every eight months for years now...and there is still no one who makes custom Tele control plates. Amazing.

I have been in talks (of no specific dollar amounts) with Kevin Birkett of Electrical Guitar Company about having a 1 vol/1 tone/1 toggle plate made along with the machining of my Tele. He said he could and would do it. I have no idea what he will be charging me though. If you are interested, hit him up and see what he says. Contact info is on the page.

Look at that control plate (on a parker p36), So someone obviously makes them.

Re: Telecaster Control Plates?

Although it looks like poop, I did mine myself with at drill... Mine's a 3 way toggle with two volumes and a tone...

I guess you could take a plate to a local metal shop.

Re: Telecaster Control Plates?

if anyone finds a tele plate with standard pot holes but with the Gibson style toggle let me know.....Of course Who Relayed... some of Townshends Shecters had controll plates with the knife switch drilled out for the Gibson switch like The Golden Boy's tele above.... But the plate machined with the gibson hole in the first place would look more neat.....

I have thought about making one out of plastic but i can't see it being strong enough with it being so long and 2 little screws....

Re: Telecaster Control Plates?

talk to Dave at www.fretsonthenet.com he should be able to make you guys custom tele plates with his eyes closed. he does tons of cool aluminum work for me for my Clone guitars (hum rings, trem cavity covers and control cavity covers all in aluminum). the only thing is that they will be high polished aluminum and not nickel or chrome plated. you would have to find your own plater if you want chrome or nickel and tell Dave it would need to be made of brass or steel. he can however have them anodized if you wanted some funky color. send him an e-mail he's a great guy to deal with!!
