Telecaster HS

Hi all! I am Reguera, from spain, newcomer here. I have a fsr standar telecaster, that comes with fender hot pickups (not so hot) and would like to get something with more character. I founded that the body is already humbucker routed, so I will try a fat tele. I would like something classic/hot, love that jeff beck sound in truth, although thats a lp. I think that an alnico II pro hb in neck position and a quarter pound in the bridge (want to keep single coil in the bridge) could do the job, but I´m not sure if they will match together. Any suggestion? Thank you!

Re: Telecaster HS

welcome to the forum!

the qp should have enough output to keep up with the alnico II pro in the neck. i have never tried that combo but i would think it would be good

Re: Telecaster HS

thanks for your reply, jeremy, will tell you how it works, whatever I try. I also was thinking in a jazz hb for the neck, but maybe too much output for te qp, dont know. Right know still wanting alnico II + qp.

Re: Telecaster HS

FWIW I have a Tele with a P90 at the neck and a Quarter Pound at the bridge and they sound great together. As Jeremy said, the QP shouldn't have any trouble keeping up with the alnico II humbucker.

Oh, and welcome!

Re: Telecaster HS

thank you bluesbend! One more thing I´d like to know, wich pots should I put in that h/s combination, 250k or 500k? It will be single volume, single tone, I wonder that should be 250, right? About the pickups, what wolud match better with the bridge qp, jazz or alnico II pro?

Re: Telecaster HS

To answer your pot question, I'd use a 500K volume and a 250K tone. That's what Fender used to do before they got their custom-made 375K pots that they use in both positions.

Both of my HS Teles have this setup.

Great! didnt know about that 375 pots! Surely will try that 250/500 configuration you said, thank you!

The main reason they went with the 375 pots is because of the interaction between the pots if they're both not at 10. Different components in the network react to each other.

Personally, I RARELY use the tone controls on my guitars. However, I tend to wire them in since sometimes I do (I like doing wah swells on my Teles every once in a while) and wiring no tone into the circuit with the same volume value will make for a brighter tone.

Re: Telecaster HS

Oh! Then I must try another configuration rather than 250/500k combination, cause I am looking for my tone (reaally lost) and use both controls intensively. One more thing: when I turn my guitar vol up, it starts to distorion Have more distortion control in the vol pot than in my amp! (have a vox pathfinfer 15r, great clean tones mainly, but not much distortion...). Is it right?

Well, why don't you give the 500/250 configuration a try. You might end up liking it. It's what Fender had been doing for a long time up until a few years ago on the Teles with neck humbuckers.

A lot of players control their distortion with their volume controls. Definitely not an unusual thing. However, the way you say that... That it gets more distortion with the volume up... Well, yeah. LOL Turn that volume all the way up and let that bad boy rip!

Re: Telecaster HS

Yeah, LOL, i havo no control over my tone. As yo said, must give a try to the 25/500 config, any suggestion for some quality pots?

Re: Telecaster HS

Yeah, AllParts prices on their site are full MSRP. If you buy from a dealer you won't pay that much.
