Telecaster Neck Pickup Grounding Issue (SD 3-2)

I have a SD Five-Two that I am trying to install. Do I need to ground the silver casing of the pickup to the back of a pot, or is that built into the wiring?

I cannot get the wire to stick to the pickup cover, even with flux.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated, I am about at my wits end trying to get a wire to stick to the pickup cover

I think I recall that mine had a tiny wire running from the negative solder spot on the flatwork, leading to the edge of the chrome cover. Where the wire is soldered to the cover, it appears that someone sanded it rough with a dremel tool or sandpaper.

Yup, this seems to be how it is on most Tele neck pickups. I assume that new SD's are like that as well. Do you not see one on yours?
