i just used a chisel to open a rout a little the other day. not the best way to do it but it was quick and worked out fine. look forward to the report once you get it all together!
Well, not using my best judgement, I got my razor sharp chisel and just shaved the wood slowly and carefully and the pickup now fits. I ordered my custom pickguard today, so in a week or so I will have the pickups installed.
If you needed a pickup to fit and made it fit, I don't see anything wrong with your judgment.
I've noticed that I like the tone of guitars with swimming pool routes. I think I'm going to chisel out most of the wood under my Tele's guard, then use my Dremel to clean it up.
My pickguard came on Friday and I put it on and installed the pickups. Installed a 500K pot for volume and 470k resistor off the bridge lug so the Firebird mini in the neck sees 500K and the bridge Hot for Telecaster sees 250K. Balanced out the PU and tuned it up. Sounds so good.
