Telecaster output jack HELP

I guess there is some sort of clip used to hold the input jack into the body of a Tele? I've never taken one apart so I didnt know. I bought a jack from the Stratosphere on Egay and they didn't include it.

Has anyone devised a way to attach the cup without the use of this clip??

Re: Telecaster output jack HELP

Never mind...it looks like two soldering points on the jack stick out and act as the clip.

Is this correct?

Re: Telecaster output jack HELP

If you`re talking about the vintage tele jack cup you`ll need a clip and a installation tool from stewmac. The easy and best way to go is to get yourself a electrosocket.

I'm puzzled because the Stratosphere doesn't have any listings for the clip.

In fact, there is only one listing on Ebay for the retainer. Is it really necessary?

+1 on the electrosocket from Stewmac or similar store. You will fight that tele jack for the rest of your playing days. Ditch it. Bad design in the first place, and does not effect the tone, so I don't see why, in a day and age when we can stick a small computer in the control cavity of a guitar, anyone is still manufacturing that stupid tele jack clip.

Man, I have tried every thing I could think of to Get one of those cups to stay in place without the Retainer....And nothing worked, at least not for more than a few minutes.

Yer best off Buying an Electrosocket if you wanna keep the stock jackcup "look". Although I really don't see why it would Matter if you had a stock Jackcup "look" haha.

Personally any time I've had to replace the jackcup on a tele, I always just used One of those metal "football" side jackplate things. The Jack cups are just annoying anyways (the traditional ones at least) cause no matter how well you get the retainer secured, eventually the jack will start loosening itself, and you'll have to deal with Tightening the jack every couple days, And occasionally the whole thing just falling out for no real reason. Yer way better off just Useing an electrosocket, Or If ya don't wanna spend that much one of those "football" jack plates.

Re: Telecaster output jack HELP

Thanks for all the replies guys. It looks like there was an Electrosocket installed in this body before (two small screw holes inside the jack route), so it looks like the route I should take....I just didn't want to have spend $15 on a freaking jack cup.

They nickel and dime you to death with that shipping...:yell:

ya those electrosocket jack holders are great!!!! on my tele guitars i use the square metal LP style jack holders... but i'd like to use the Electrosocket on my next tele

Re: Telecaster output jack HELP

Electrosocket all the way. They're worth that extra cost because you'll never have to replace it again. Just get one from Allparts.

And yes, with the old style cups, you NEED that retainer clip to hold the jack cup in place. Just thought I'd answer that since nobody else seemed to bother.

I'm ordering from Stew Mac, they are almost half the price of Allparts. ;)
