Telecaster Positions

Is the neck, the silver pickup near the fretboard... rhythm?
And the bridge, the one that is on the bridgeplate... lead?

I have always thought that it's the opposite of other guitars. Am I under a misconception here?

Yes.

i don't think it is opposite of other guitars ... but it sure is opposite for the way i seem to play frequently :D ... i love the tone of the neck pup for soloing and the emphasized highs of the bridge pup for rhythm - helps me get out of the singer's (midrange) 'way'

Re: Telecaster Positions

Its because in the days before pedals and boosters for leads, they would use the neck pickup for rhythm and bridge for lead. It makes sense because the bridge pickup has more bite then a neck pickup.

Re: Telecaster Positions

I almost always use the lead (bridge) pickup for just about everything, but lately, I've been using the neck pup when I'm playing higher up on the neck. Must be a phase that i'm transversing!

Re: Telecaster Positions

It's really a question about what style music are you playing.I sometimes use my neck pu,for melody if the song is jazz-funk-country-classical,or other times use the middle duncan(i have three on my tele)for rhythm,or lead-clean lead,no distortion. Then hop on my lead pu(I also can tap my coils,by pulling up my tone control) for some mean grunge metal leads. It's a very personal decision,Carmine D'Amico http://www.carminedamico.biz http://www.carminedamico.com
