Telecaster with 59' humbucker in the neck

Hello everyone, first time poster here. I'm working on a project and need your guys help. I recently bought A nickel covered 59' humbucker and it put in the neck position on my Fender Telecaster, and I have a Fender broadcaster pickup in the bridge. For some reason I'm the middle position it sounds out of phase. I've tried a few different wiring options with no luck. I should also mention that it's a 2 conductor, not 4. Please let know if, and how I can get the 59 humbucker in phase with the fender single coil when in the middle position. Also I've noticed the 59 humbucker sounding too dark and muddy. I'm running it through 250k pots since I have a single coil in the bridge. What are your recommendations when having a humbucker and single coil in a guitar ? 250k or 500k? I don't want to make the bridge pickup sound too bright with the 500k pots, but at the same time the humbucker is sounding too muddy. Please let know what pots you guys suggest would work best for my setup, and if there's a wiring diagram that specifically for a Seymour Duncan humbucker 2 conductor in the neck and a fender single coil in the bridge, I'd appreciate you sending it over. Please get back to me as soon as possible. Thanks.

welcome to the forum!

there is a wiring scheme that allows you to run 500k pots with the humbucker and add in a 470k resister when using the single coil so it sees around 250k, but someone else will have to post it since i dont have a link.

as far as the phase thing, you have to swap the leads on the bridge pup but also move the ground wire from the baseplate on that pup to the new ground

Anyone have the wiring diagram out there??? Please share if you have any solutions for this issue

What you are looking for is Fender Fat Tele wiring scheme. That being said, I did not care for it myself in the two Teles I have with '59's in the neck. I just run 500k pots and use the tone to tame the bridge if need be.

You can get the diagram from Fender here.

Re: Telecaster with 59' humbucker in the neck

A 59 in the neck with a Broadcaster bridge is a little bit hard to balace. I would look for a A3 magnet to swap in.
OOP Problem: it will sound a bit thin if you use them in parallel because frequencies get cancelled. OOP sounds a lot thinner without mids and bass. If you choose the more full sounding variation, you are probably in phase.

I know this same setup has been done before, and it sounds great. Full tone with the humbucker, -and classic tele tone in the bridge, and a nice blend of both pickups in the middle position. Here's a link to video showing what a 59 humbucker and a broadcaster sound like in a tele. https://youtu.be/bV8xvEQRP1o

Gotta love Greg

Re: Telecaster with 59' humbucker in the neck

i made a similar tele except it had a pearly gates in the neck and a jerry donahue in the bridge. Everyone who heard it loved it.
Use 500k pots and a resistor and you'll be all good.
If you get out the multimeter, youll also find that using a 510k resistor will get you closer to a 250k pot at the bridge than 470k will.
These arent the diagrams i used but pretty close, so have an experiment with the options provided here and let us know how you go.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the advice. Will be attempting to solve the issues this weekend. Will update, and let you know my results and what method I used.

Another option is to keep the 250K tone pot but change it to a no-load so you can bypass the HB tone completely on demand.
