Telecaster with strat neck pickup???

I was wondering how awesome it would be to make a telecaster with a quarter pound strat neck pickup and a quarter pound tele bridge pickup. Would that sound big and bad or what?

I wonder, could you get the RWRP strat neck quarter pounder and combine it with the regular tele bridge quarter pounder and would it be hum cancelling when using both pickups?

Has anyone tried this, any thoughts? I really like the clarity of single coil pickups, but I need something thats gonna make for beefy tone, too.

Thanks!!!

Re: Telecaster with strat neck pickup???

certainly people use strat neck pickups with tele bridge pickups .. most notably Jerry Donahue, who uses the JD bridge with an APS strat neck.

I have a Strat Classic Stack Plus in my Tele...along with a Joe Barden bridge pickup. A Strat neck pickup sounds alot better than the normal little nickel covered Tele pickup in most Teles. Much richer, deeper and livlier...louder, brighter and clearer too! Lew

You will need to make a bigger hole in your pickguard for the Strat pu to fit though.

You can also take the cover off the Tele neck pu, but be sure to tape up the coil.

Or you can have one custom wound WITHOUT a cover...

Or you can order a custom Tele ala Strat from the Duncan Custom Shop...it's a Tele neck pickup size that sounds alot like a Strat neck pickup.

The Fralin Blues Special is also a Tele size that sounds more like a Strat...doesn't have a nickel cover though.
