Telecasters for Metal

Re: Telecasters for Metal

What qualities do the Teles have for metal?

All of that tele bite and snap combined with the right amp for metal = tons of chunk. Teles are very clear and "percussive" guitars, and that lends itself to huge variety of genres.

Re: Telecasters for Metal

I don't use it for "metal", but it is tuned to B and is probably used for heavier stuff than you play.

Also, see Engineer.

Re: Telecasters for Metal

Try a hot P-90 or there are some DiMarzio humbuckers in that form factor that'll work.

Outright output is not the issue. If it were, I would try out my spare P90b Stack.

I have … a Strat Hot Stack neck and a Tele Hot Stack bridge.

^
This is closer to what I have in mind.

I have a Vintage Rhythm Stack for Tele and an STK-S5n (the Nuno model) waiting to test. Failing that, the neck PU cavity is sufficiently generous to accommodate most popular sizes.

I dig the CS Tele Lead Stack so much that I might just get an Esquire scratchplate and go with the one pickup.

Re: Telecasters for Metal

I'm just gonna say one thing..any fool who brings a stock Tele to my metal jam is gonna get dumped allover on.
In fact, it better be something like John 5 with invaders, or forget it...and even then, why bring a frackin' Tele to a metal jam..puh-leeeze, but knock yourself out.

This is one of the dumbest things I have ever read.

I expected that response. Congrats for being the lamebrain who posted it first.
Look, you take a guitar that was designed to be light, resonant and twangy..then you figure..duh..Im a dumbass, i want to ply metal on it..so you make it out of mahogany. Then you put two invaders in it. Well, thats okay..IF your John 5.
otherwise, your just a bonehead who should get a mahogany set neck explorer with a high output humbuckers Or a Dean with Dimebuckers..or something that fits the image and has enough balls to have badass metal sound)..or you'll be owned in both image and sound.
I'm talking real modern metal buddy..through modern high gain amps..not the soft ass vintage hard rock crap your rumpled old ass thinks is "metal".;

Did you totally miss this?

This was recorded with a stock Highway-1 Texas Tele. Single coils, 3-barrel saddle and all.

No Sir. I love that music..moreso than the modern thrash/Nu or whatever its called that I'm referencing.
Still, I want to say..put a Humbucker in that Tele bridge Soso! The sound would be Thicker, heavier, and fatter.
Its great as is, and whatever 'brush' the artist wants to use with his palette of colors to express his artistic ..er expression..and blah blah ..

Dag! Im busted!
But seriously, Dude starts a 'metal tele' thread, and the first person who dissents is labeled a crackpot?
Ive seen a my share of hardcore metal jams, and in MOST instances a Tele Hotrodded compared to a dedicated Thrash machine ..and in ALL instances STOCK;
you can leave the Tele behind!

Pick the right tool for the right job, IMO.
For ultra-country I wouldn't use my Jackson, and for my Amon/Megadeth/Mastodon I wouldn't use my Strat. Hell, I'm hesitant to use the Ultra channel at all on my HSS Strat.

Sure you could use a Tele for metal, but why would you?
You have Jacksons, Deans, Schecters, Gibson Explorers, and other like instruments made SPECIFICALLY for high gain sessions, just kind of seems like a no-brainer to keep it that way.

Still... There's always the "Innovator" listening to the Good-Idea Fairy...

+1 to MetalManiac kind of.

\m/ Jacksons, yeah?

Just my opinion, is all. Shouldn't affect you, just sharing my thoughts. Do whatever you wanna do
